LH500 + 2 Cabs?! HELP!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello Talkbass and Fellow Bassists!,

Just asking, I have an LH500 Hartke Head which is 350 watts @8 ohms or 500 watts @4 ohms. My current cab is a Hartke xl410 cab which is 8ohms 400. Im thinking (to round my sound off) to add a xl115 cab which is 200 @8 ohms. Would this be possible? in total it would be 600 watts? Would it still work?

Thanks!

Don't do it, add another matching 410. You'll just end up blowing the 15 eventually.

It would work but not advised... You will be sending as many watts to the single 15 as you would the 410, a matching 410 cab would be your best bet.... there are alot of threads on this subject, try using the search function......

By itself, or with another matching 1X15

So what I could do is buy and extra 410 cab, a new LH500 head, and 2x115 cabs?

Why don't you just get the matching 4X10 to what you already have, and call it a day ?

Why do you need 15's ?

Cause like its a 4ohm 500 watt head, and two cabs would be 800 watts 4 ohms?

There's nothing wrong with that.

And the problem is ?

Don't get hung up on wattage ratings of cabs. That is the rating at which the voice coil will melt, NOT the real world power handling capability before the cab hits it's mechanical limits and starts distorting/farting out. Real world mechanical limits are about half the thermal rating.

Speakers/cabs do NOT draw power from the amp. They simply work with what the amp provides.

Also would this be loud enough for an audience with 100-200 people? (with one cab)

The answer to both of these questions is, "it depends." Why don't you provide us with a little more information on exactly what you are trying to do and exactly what you perceive to be the deficiency in your existing rig?
