Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone here had experience with a light 4-ohm 2x10 cab. I'm looking for the smallest/lightest possibility.
I guess I could also entertain two 8-ohm 1x10 cabs...
Any recommendations?
Cheers,
Pappa K

Just wondering about that Fitzmaurice stuff - don't they deal with "build-it-yourself" kits? Not really the route I wanted to take, but I'll research them to be sure.

Great sounding cabinets, great componets, at a more than reasonable price.
When I was auditioning 210 cabinets for my vertical 410, (I A/B'ed 15 different manufacturers 210 cabs against a Avatar Neo 210), the Avatar along with my GK MB-500 head was one of two 210 cabinets that I thought was capable of being used as a stand-alone cabinet. The other cab was a Berg 210 AE, it sold for $850.00 , my Avatar 210 Neo, $319.00.

| | | | Had exactly the same question. I tried a Low B2 from Acme, thought it was too bulky and traded it for 2 Low B1's. The Low B2 sounded great. Google Acme Low B for more info. |

(under 35lbs..with a built in dolly!)...you can find them used, in decent cond., on ebay for under $350....
however, i (personally) was never crazy about the tone...
nowadays...the Avatar Cabs are prob. the best bang for the buck.. (weight / sonics)

I have run it off a 480W GK head and a 500W Hartke, neither pushed much past 12:00 master volume. And now both speakers are blown in the Avatar. Your experience may differ... |

Yeah, tone and weight are important. I just wanted the best combination of both.
And someone recently PMd me with the idea of running a single 12... which I would definitely consider. I didn't even know they made 4-ohm versions.
So... in that department, two have caught my attention: The EA Wizzy and the Eden EX112.
Am I going OT on my own thread?

| | | I’m not sure if 4-ohms would be of any benefit with a 210… maybe a 212?
GK has some nice 8-ohm 210 offerings, or the 4-ohm 212MBE at 34 lbs.
Just a thought… http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....ice%7c0&rpp=20

It goes a good bit deeper than the Markbass Traveler 102P, and has a very balanced, though slightly dark, one. Andy now also offers a 4-ohm 1x12 (the Flatwound) in the same sized box.
The EA Wizzy and M-line Wizzy are also great choices. The Mesa/Boogie PH112 can also be ordered in 4 ohms. Or one of Duke's AK Thunderchild 1x12's would also be excellent.

Trying to keep costs down for this one since it'll mostly a practice/small gig cab...
So far, it's looking like either the Avatar or the Acme for a 210 - although I'd really like to find one of those Ampeg Portabass 210's that juicyanalog mentioned to try out.
In the 1x12 department, I'm still not sure. I think I'll go with a 210.

Since almost "all" the brand-name bass cabinet manufacturers use Eminience Neo speakers, just as does Avatar, chances are you'd have blown them no matter who the bass cabinet manufacturer was.
Pappak,
If your strictly looking for the lightest 210 cab, the Ampeg 210AV cabinet is 26 lbs., but their only available in 8 ohms.
I had one for about a week.
Easiest to move 210 cab I've ever carted around.
A/B'ed it and my Avatar.......to my ears the Avatar won.

The drivers just don't last.. Depending on what you a re looking for, you should swing over to the coffeehouse 1x10 thread. Build two of those.
I wouldn't personally be looking for an 8 ohm 2x10. You can't put muc more than 200 -300 watts continuous in any 2x10, and most amps can do that at 8 ohms. You limit a lot of amps doing 4 ohms. 1 cab and done.
