Light amp with crunchy tube sound? GB stm x TB500 x LM ROCKER

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, im looking for new amp. I m using Markbass LM now, i like it, but i want also a little bit more dirty and crunchy sound.

So the first choice should b MarkBass Little Mark Rocker. But there are also another nice and cheeper posibilities.

Genz-Benz Streamliner looks pretty cool and at the reviews on youtube sounds great. Also it has many gadgets like aux-in, headaphones output.. and price in europe is lower than LM3.

Aquilar Tone Hammer 500. It looks like useful worker. Nice feature is the mid-range setting. But there is no real tube, no that extra inputs and the price in europe is higher then GB stm 600, comparable to LM rocker or GB stm 900.

The last member of my short list is TC electronic 450 classic, but this amp i like probably least. Maybe it is due to its hi-tech brothers .

Do you anybody you compared these heads side by side? Could you write a little bit about it? thanx a lot

btw i know that there is some more similar amp like GK fusion, but i dont like GK sound much it is too modern for me... or Orange terror, witch looks great i like this retro design, bur it seems to me that it is foremost rock amp.
I play some mix of ska, soul music with touch of punk rock, reggae or 70.disco.

Keep what you have and add this crazy thing:

Darkglass Electronics Microtubes B3K Bass Demo - YouTube

After hearing the demo on youtube, I am pretty impressed. I do not own it myself, but this thing kicks butt. Search Talkbass and one guy and several others rave about it. Keeps the low end intact too while being crunchy. Nice amount of edge without going too crazy. Or you can go for the Tech VT bass pedal.

Use a pedal instead. The Little mark tube and the little rocker have the same preamp type but the rocker has more gain. The LMT with a booster pedal can do whatever the rocker does.

I'd get either the MB li'l rocker or a GB Shuttle 6.0 which can get a nice tube grind happening(the Streamliner just didn't work for me).
Either way, I'd add a Tech 21 VT BASS pedal, as it's got such good overdrives in it. Gives a lot more options ime!

To add more dirt and crunch to your LMII, just add a VT Bass to the front. It's what I did, and it's great.

+1 Easy, low cost solution that will give the OP a wide variety of warm/crunchy/overdriven tones.

Mesa Walkabout. 13Lbs. Most tube sounding amp I've heard including crunch that wasn't a genuine all tube amp.
