A lightweight 210 for my F1?

Just wondering what 2x10 cabinet that is below 40lbs and below $500(used) will be a nice compliment for my F1 and Sadowsky? Thanks!

New..... TC RS210... Used, Bergantino AE210.

Both sound GREAT with the F1, with the TC sounding warm and smooth (it is not neo, but relatively lightweight and very easy to schlepp due to its small footprint, vertical orientation and coax tweeter), and the Berg having a bit more bite and bright.

IMO and IME!

As always thanks for chiming in Ken!

Isn't like used AE210 go for $600-700? That's a bummer for me IMO..

Btw, I'm from the Berg ER stack the stack is just too smooth for me..

Not sure what they are selling for used... might be a bit over your budget. Nice cabs, and kind of the more aggressive 'yin' to the HT112ER 'yang'.

You might really dig that little TC RS210... much tighter and warmer and low mid punchy than the HT112ER, and less hi fi up top. The finish kind of sucks (quite frankly, so does the Berg AE finish), but with a padded cover, it is no problem.

The RS210 is a particular good match with the F1 to my ear. I think I have a clip on my Youtube channel. I'll check, it has been a while.

Here is the clip.... sounds pretty good to me. I'm using a pretty aggressive 70's style J in the clip, so keep that in mind. The first half of the clip demo's the F1.

I saw the video seems like a nice fit specially just F1 set flat.. That's what I am missing on my HT112ER's the low mid punch and tightness of a 210..

I had the same issue with my F1 and my Epi UL cabs. I fixed that in two ways... first by upgrading to the F500, which has the ability to lower the low mid center point and add some burp to the wide, smooth low end of a cab like the UL's and HT112ER, and finally, moving from the UL's to the Berg AE's, which have that nice upper bass/low mid presence built in.

And yes, the RS210 is voiced perfectly with the F1 set flat.

I've heard good things about the TC Electronic 2x10 or the Genz Benz NeoX-210T might be another good option

So what do you think you would recommend? Going for the F500 or changing cabs to 10's?

That is a tough one. With the F500, the good news is, along with the two semi-parametric mid controls, you get a full featured DI with level control and (thank god) a pre/post EQ switch, and a mute button (actually a push/pull on the master... it works 'OK'). The other good news is that, set flat, the tone is literally identical to the F1, so no surprises.

The bad news (for some) is that in order to fit all that stuff on the same little faceplate, they went to very small concentric tone controls (bass/treble, then the two mid vol/freq controls). If you are a 'set it and play' guy, zero issue. If you tweak on the gig, forget it... impossible!

I do think the ability to dial the low mid control down significantly from that unfortunate 400hz or so level of the F1 greatly helps some cabs with a big, wide open bottom, so that might be an option for you, since the ER's are quite amazing.

FYI, here is a direct comparison picture of the two heads.

I'm a set and play guy so pretty much the extra knobs is no biggie for me.. Maybe I'll give the cabs a go at first since I'm kinda in a stage right now that I need to downgrade my rig because of the economy.. Upgrading to F500 will cost me more since there are no TB'ers that is willing to sell one.. LOL

Makes sense, and the F1 sounds just as good with many cabs.

TBer DonovanBankhead is a great TC dealer, and really gives fellow TBers good deals and great service on the TC stuff. Highly recommended if you are considering the RS210 and are in the US.

If you end up going with the RS210, I would highly recommend the padded cover (quite inexpensive and decent quality) given the spray on finish, and also recommend screwing four nice big rubber feet to the bottom of the cab... keeps the bottom from getting scuffed up, and provides a more sturdy feel/platform.

Thanks again Ken! It's either the RS210 or AE210 I will be getting..

Also consider the Ampeg AV210; this small sealed cab sounds exceptionally well "in the mix". I tend to prefer it to my RS210. The two combined for a vertical 410 sound pretty nice too.

The RS210 and AE210 have more of the modern tone, the Ampeg is more traditional.

All these cabs are first class, it boils down to the tone you are looking for. Also there is no substitution for trying these cabs in a store setting or better yet in your own setting.

I had read a many threads hyping the RS210 and so far I have been underwhelmed. I don't dislike the cab but it's not been love at the first site either. I think of it as more of a great value than a great cab in absolute terms. Again it’s just how I hear it.

I'm more into a modern tone so pretty much the RS210/AE210 fits me when it comes to cabs than the Ampeg. Thanks!

Anyone got an idea?

I use an AE210 (sometimes alone, sometimes with another AE210) with the F1 and a Fender Jazz, so we are in the same tone universe. The F1 and a single AE210 is plenty for some lower volume gigs.

Used, they are over $600 typically. They will hold their resale value relatively well I assume, so if you can afford it youll recoup the costs when or if you sell later.

I played the TC as well (with a TC head though). I thought it sounded very good as well.

I prefer the look of the Berg if that means anything, a little more traditional looking.

Really, you cant go wrong with either of those cabinets.

Both need a cover.
