Lightweight Kickback combo amp Suggestions

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm going to be rehearsing with a band that requires a bit of a commute. We practice in a fairly small family room and play hard rock. I'm looking for suggestions for a small combo amp so I don't have to haul my head, cab, cables, etc....
Here's what I would like.
1X15 Tilt back design
At least 200 Watts maybe 300
Less than 50 lbs if possible.
Cost is not really a factor yet but would prefer $400.00 range.
This is for Hard rock so I would like something with nice tone.
Been searching for lightweight combos but I'm just not sure which direction to go and a GC is too far for me to go try stuff out. My purchase will be based on your suggestions only.

for a small 200w 115 combo that'll do hard rock, you've got two choices...spend a lot and get something small, or spend a little and get something big.

How about a suggestion for each? What would you personally get for the "spend a little" AND the "spend alot?"

to be honest, i'm not really as up on the newest combos as i should be. i like the hartke hydrives, i like ampeg b100r and b200r combos (no longer being made but the sound is out of this world), i like the more expensive gk stuff, i like the fender bassman tv's, i like markbass, i like genz benz (don't think they make a 115 combo, though)...

Great suggestions. I was looking at the hartke hydrive today online. Yes pricey, however might just be the ticket. I've always liked their tone. The only thing that makes me hesitate about that one is that there is no headphone jack.
I've been wanting to use ear buds to monitor myself so I don't have to crank up so loud when playing hard rock. I tend to play harder too which makes the hands ache after several hours of that. Might be a different thread but can I monitor through the effects loop out with ear buds? I thought I saw that somewhere before.

Well, thanks for the suggestions.
I just bought this http://www.samsontech.com/products/p...1937&brandID=3 I think it will do well for this current project environment where the room is small and I can point it right at my face. The 2 10's will make it less boomy since 15's throw sound further IMO. Crossing my fingers!

Well, got the new Hartke Hydrive combo 2X10 home this weekend.
So far I am very pleased. I just set the knobs to the suggested settings for rock and put on some songs to learn. First impression is WOW that little guy has the sound of a 8X10 cab. (note I say sound, not force) I played it practicing in the house with the level at about 6. Was kind of worried about how it may perform in a small rehearsal studio with full drums and a half stack. So, we (all of the people in my head) turned it up to 8 and went at it till the wife about broke my door down. LOL I think it will do just fine for what I purchased it for. It will probably fit in the trunk of the mustang!!
I'm happy with the purchase and would recommend it.
