Line 6 IV spider as a pre-amp?

I was wondering if using a guitar head into to a bass head in to a bass cab would let me use the guitar as my sound and the head as getting the volume up, I was planing to use the EBS Reidmar as the bass amp and two EBS Classic line 112's as my cabs.

I'll use the guitar head for metal and go straight into the EBS for my clean bass.

A new line 6 pedal that can do the same is the same price and i've allready tryed the spider and know that I like it.
