Line outs - TB 500 VS Micro-VR

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

Anyone had a chance to compare the line outs of the Orange Terror Bass 500 vs the Ampeg Micro-VR?

I currently gig with the Micro-VR and while I love the sound I get through the SVT210AV cabs, the line out EQ is a complete different thing. While the cabs are punchy and cutting through the mix, the line out is all unfocused hyped lows and glassy pushed highs which renders it pretty much useless for FOH and I currently prefer miking the cab with a 421, which is not always the sound guys delight.

So I'm wondering if the line out of the Orange TB would be better or not.

Thanks!

The Orange TB sounds decent to me - at least as good as my GK1001rbII's DI (good enough for home recording) but the signal generally needs to be attenuated.

I would post a recording if I knew how.

The sound that works in the cab for the Micro VR doesn't usually work in the DI. I'd either mic it, use an outboard DI, or I'd EQ the bass channel some. Sounds suspiciously like you're leaving everything at noon

It's the same thing with the Micro-VR concerning the gain level. I like to run it at 2 o'clock where it really opens up, but it's often too hot for the board at FOH.

Definately! I sometimes have to back out some bass or some mids but I usually leave everything flat and the sound is perfect. Never in the D.I. though.

That's why I want to know if the Orange's D.I. is flat or is as coloured as the Micro-VR.
