Linking amps through the effects loop?

Sign in to disble this ad
I run a 700RB (mk-I) into a 4x10 and a 1x15.

I plan on buying a Danelectro Hornet Baritone and a Fender Blues Junior amp in the near future. I play in a country band, and I think it'd be cool to throw in some Baritone licks over some of the traditional country songs that we play. I don't, however, feel that I'm ready to jump to a larger amp rig for guitar as I play bass 99.9% of the time.

I was thinking of running the Blues Junior at a lower volume into my GK's effects loop (with the baritone hooked up to it) so I could easily switch during gigs and be able to hear myself on stage. Will this cause problems? Any other suggestions?

Well, the first problem is that the Blues Jr. doesn't have an effects send. It doesn't have any way to send a pre-amp level signal to the FX return on the GK. The jacks hidden up inside the chassis are a foot switch for the pull-boost, and a speaker output. Do NOT plug that speaker output into your GK. You'll likely destroy the output tranny of the Blues Jr., and my damage the GK.

In theory your idea will work however- If you have a guitar amp with a line-level FX loop you can run the FX send of that amp to the FX return of the GK. Will it sound good? I dunno. I'm not sure how well I'd like the sound of a baritone through bass speakers. The sound I think of with a baritone is a Twin Reverb- open back speaker cabinet with that peculiar midrange.

John

I agree with John, nothing else to add.

But, why do you need to plug the Fender into the GK?

Why not just run the Baritone direct?

Thanks for the warnings. I guess for right now I'll just run an A/B box and get some Danelectro pedals for the effects and then save up for a nicer and larger Fender amp.

Direct into the PA? Or direct into the GK?
