I find these type of threads interesting!

My first amp...Ampeg Gemini 15" guitar amp.
My uncle screwed a piece of plywood on the back making it a sealed cabinet and I used it as a bass amp for a couple of years.....what did I know???

First "real" bass amp...Brand new, Sunn 2000S head and two JBL loaded Sunn 200S cabinets.
Only had this set-up a very short time, blew several drivers, then the head caught fire at a job.
Sounded GREAT when it was all working!

Traded the Sunn in on a Ampeg SVT head and two of the flat-back 810 cabinets. ABSOLUTELY monstrous sound!!!!!!!
The head had some problems.
Traded the SVT head in 1984 for a brand new Gallien-Krueger 800RB head, used one of my Ampeg 810 cabinets with the G.K. head for the next 26+ years.
LOVED that rig!
The G.K. 800 is still being used, wish I had the cabinet back.

I didn't want to haul around the 810 anymore so I down sized to some Eden equipment but only had them a short time (they were stolen).

Insurance paid for stolen equipment so present set-up.
G.K. MB2-500 head or a Ampeg PF-500 head driving Two Avatar Neo 210 cabinets stacked as a vertical 410.
(My favorite rig to date is the combination of the MB2-500 and the two Avatar 210 cabinets.) Great sound and easy to move.......

Hmmm, interesting to be thinking about all of this after so long.

1. (Mid 80's) EG 30B - this was some kind of Chinese 30 watt solid state combo that I got with my first bass.
2. (Late 80's) Peavey TNT 130 - first "real" amp.
3. (Late 80's early 90's) Traynor Bassmaster Mark II (early 70's) head and matching 2x15 cab. I used this in tandem with the TNT 130. It was a lot to haul around but it actually sounded pretty awesome if I remember correctly.
4. (Mid 90's) Hartke 7000 head and Hartke Transient Attack cabs, 2x10 and 1x15.
5. (Mid to late 90's) Ampeg B115 combo. Thought I was "getting out of music" and downsized. (Didn't like it.)
6. (Late 90's) Music sucked me back in. Bought the Hartke 7000 head back from the guy I sold it to along with a couple of Yorkville cabs - 4x10 and 1x15.
7. (Early '00's) Ashdown EVO 500 II rack mount version. Used with the Yorkville cabs from above.
8. (Mid '00's) Started touring again. Mesa M-Pulse 600 hybrid head in the big "SVT like" case. Mesa Powerhouse cabs - 2x12 and 2x10.
9. (Mid '00's) SVT Classic head and 810 cab. "For larger gigs"
10. (Late '00's) Sold the Mesa rig and went back to the Ashdown EVO 500 II with an ABM 610 cab for "smaller gigs".
11. (Early '10's) Bought an Orange Terror Bass 500 and SP212 cab in an effort to reduce back strain on "smaller gigs".
12. (Early '10's) Hated the Orange and started hating the music biz again. Sold everything but the Ashdown rig (only because no-one bought it).
13. (Early '10's) Decided to only play smaller shows that paid me money. Bought an Aguilar ToneHammer 500 and two DB112 cabs (green). Love the sound and portability of this rig.
14. (Current) Suddenly, I'm playing bigger venues and touring again. Found the holy grail. Fender Super Bassman 300 and matching Neo 610 cab. Amazing!

I bring the Aguilar TH500 in my gig bag as a back up in case anything goes wrong with the tube amp. Still have the Ashdown rig as an emergency backup.

Started playing in 70 at age 15, with some unknown brand of Japanese bass with a long scale neck and off brand of amp I called Big Bertha, for no apparent reason that I can recall.
Then came a Plush 4000G, which I played for years. My mom even shipped it to California! What a great woman!
I then went to a GK 800 RB, biamped with a Yamaha two 15 cab on the bottom and a Marshall four 10 cab on the top, crazy. I could barely lift the Yamaha, so sold both cabs and bought an 18 PAS cab for lows and matching 2X10 for the top.
Then sold all that equipment and bought an SWR Super Redhead, which I had to sell earlier this year after I got a tumor in my right calf, had radiation, and am not allowed to lift more than 30 pounds or run hard any longer, leg can break. I now own a GB Shuttle 6.0 and two GK 112 Neos, which I'm very happy with. I also own an old Kustom of some sort, which I used to use for rehearsal, and a Peavey Microbass. That's it for me.

Peavy Centry - homemade 1-15 w/Jbl K140. not bad but I couldn't play very well yet so who knows. Peavy t-40 bass

In high school we has two B15s. An early 70s one and a 60's one. I actually preferred the 70's model. Great amps - played through them every day for 5 years. We had an early 70's Fender P-bass at school.

Fender Bassman; late 60's 100 watt with Fender 2-15 w EVO's - Electric shock machine, sounded pretty good. G&L L-1000 bass.

Acoustic 270 guitar head with the fender 2-15. Not too bad but we started to play loud! Kramer DMZ-4001 aluminum neck bass.

Started using a Peavy PA head with the Fender 2-15 because it sounded better then the Acoustic. Ibanez Roadster Fretless Bass

Picked up an Acoustic 2-15. It was deeper then the fender- put the EVO's in. '78 Fender Jazz Bass.

Acoustic 320- picked it up at Gracin's Music in Hempstead NY after the Peavy PA head blew up. Sounded good with the Acoustic cab. Still using the '78 Jazz Bass

A friend of mine was a bouncer in a club we worked at and he was also a carpenter. He started measuring all the band's speaker cabs as they came in to the club and started to make cabinets. He called them "PMC" cabinets. We all bought something from him- I got 2 1-15 cabs and a 2-10. I put my EVO's in the 1-15s and salvaged a couple of 10's from the old Peavy PA columns for the 2-10. Eventually the "PMC" cabinets came to be known locally as "Poorly Made Crap". They were not that bad though. I usually used 1-15 with my Acoustic 320. '78 Jazz.

Gallien Kruger 400 RB. Used with the 1-15. Nice setup. Kept the GK as a backup. Worked in a '77 Music Man Stingray.

Gailien Kruger MB 200 practice amp. Kept for a while for rehearsal, etc.

AMP BH 420 and Trace Elliot 4-10. Really good setup- bought the AMP from a music store that I was teaching at when they first came out played over 500 gigs with this setup- never let me down once. Still have the AMP as my backup. I used the '77 Music Man and '78 Jazz.

Eden WT800. Epifani T2-12. One one first 2-12s that Epifani built. Got the Eden at the same time but these two didn't work well together. Fender '96 Relic Jazz Bass, '89 American reissue '57 P-bass.

Aguilar db 659 - Crown K2 - Epifani T212. Kicked ass- great definition, unlimited headroom. One of my favorite setups personally. mostly used the '96 Relic Jazz

Aguilar db728 tube monster replaced the Crown K2. Too much

Aguilar. DB 750 and Epifani T- 2-12. Great rig- used this for several years. Never thought I would replace it.

Tried a TC electronics 2-12 with the Aggie 750 because it fit in my trunk - the TC lasted one gig.

Found an early Epifani T 2-10 that fit in my trunk. Really nice with the DB750. Used the Epifani T212 for larger gigs. Picked up a Sadowsky Vintage P.

Aguilar ToneHammer 500 came out. Held on to the 750 for a while but it started to collect dust. Mostly using with the Epifani T210

Audio Kinesis Thunderchild 1-12. Using with the tonehammer. Love it

Audio Kinesis Thunderchild 1-15. Also with the Tonehammer. Trying to decide which one to keep- the 1-12 or the 1-15. Sadowsky vintage P mostly.

'98 - Park (by Marshall) 25W noob POS combo. Gotta start somewhere!
'99 - Fender BXR 100 ...got me through High School, but what a honky piece of crap! Can't remember if it blew up or I sold it.
'02-06 SWR Goliath III and 750W head. My first real rig. Got it as a graduation present. Later got a 15" SWR cab, but it wasn't a good match. Traded that 15" cab up for a another GIII. This was a RIG OF DOOM hands down. Months later I remembered that I drove a VW golf and loading both of these 90lb cabs plus my 40lb head SUCKED. I also started getting better at bass and realized that my "SWR sound" was scooped and bland no matter what I did.
'07 - Traded the SWR tower for a SVT610 (and a Geddy Lee) and got a US SVT3PRO off eBay for $400! 2 years later the SVT blew up, but it was insured for $1000... so I made a profit. Sold the cab in grad school.
'10 - Got an exclusive deal on a Line6 400W "pro" combo and spent a year in buyer's remorse. Talk about crap tone, unreliability, and weight relative to size! Luckily I was able to unload it on eBay. I think I broke even.
'11 - Discovered the Ampeg Portaflex line and got a deal online for a PF-500/115 stack. Loved it so much, I got a second 115 cab!
'12 - Got a SVT7PRO to run my duel 115s with more headroom! (Kept PF-500 for backup). Also, snagged a BA108 for practice.
'13 - Sold the 7Pro and preordered the new PF-800!!!!! In May (when it ships) I can finally have my cake and eat it too!

Wow, that took longer than anticipated!
