Buy Behringer Ultrabass BXR1800H Bass Amplifier Head | Solid State Amp Heads | Musician's Friend
Basically I only play at a church on sundays with 40 people, not a very large crowd. There is a drummer and keyboard player.
I'm not in a band and I don't have any other gigs. I'm struggling to keep the lights on and rent paid alone with no help. Will this head cut it for me? And what cabinet can I pair it with?

Built like a tank, won't break the bank.

| | | | I agree You can find used Peavey bass amps everywhere, decent price. I saw a used Peavey TNT in a Pawn Shop the other day for $125.00 pretty nice shape. I would look on eBay or craigslist. Be a lot better then Behringer. |

| | | | The Behringer is more than enough to keep up with your band and the crowd size, but finding an affordable cabinet takes it to higher priced than just buying a combo.
Check out Carvin.com, they have great prices on little combos.

However, there are always exceptions to the rule. I'm using one of their Bass V-amp pros right now, and last night during load in it took a header into a concrete floor, inside of a road case of course. I got it inside and plugged it in, and it powered right up with all of my settings, didn't miss a beat. However, I've been using the unit for less than a year, so we'll see how its track record is.
Peavey on the other hand is built like a tank. I don't think I've ever experienced a Peavey malfunction without cause. It's not like these amps have God mode, if you clip constantly you'll tear up the speaker, etc. but in terms of regular wear, they just seem to weather most everything.
If you really need to keep under a budget, try a Behringer combo. Getting a cab to go with that head will end up costing more. However, with the combo, buy all of the warranty you can and be prepared to send it back. I'm not saying you'll for sure get a bad one, but a company doesn't just get a reputation like Behringer's without some cause. Then again, maybe you'll get a gem. I know there are guys out there that have been gigging Behringer amps for years without issues. |

There was a 200b head with a 1x15 cab the other day for 100.00 that sold in a few days. I just answered another thread about these combos on the used site and the shipping is resonable too. Just had a 44lbs 2x10 shipped from Ohio to sarasota for less than 30 bucks, thats pretty good. Check it out and see if one of those combination combos are avalible. Speak to the store manager and ask questions as to performance and cosmetics. If your not satisfied with the item it can be returned to any G/C store for a full refund. Doc |

| | | + more to the combo idea - it will save you $$ over a head and cab set up....
used Peavey or Yorkville work well here... Fender Rumble 150? I think they are $350 brand new and are plenty loud/good enough

If you can 't get a good used head and you do get the Behringer make sure you pay extra for the 3 year warranty. Musicans F. or GC will stand behind their warranty's.......You have to start somewhere, however if it were me I would look at other makes and maybe spend a little more for a better head. ....Good luck .......................................... |

Another vote for a used peavey tko here. It'll do everything you need to do for $100 - $150. |

| | | | I would try to go used. What is your budget for a cab? |
05-30-2011, 06:40 PM
| | | | Fender Rumble 75. $250ish. That would be my pick for your situation. Or if you want light weight G K 112 about 300ish |
05-30-2011, 06:47 PM
| | | | Used is good if you know what you're getting into.
If you don't have enough knowledge of what you're buying and what to check for, then take somebody along that does.
Lot of stuff gets fixed up enough to sell it and pass the problem on to the next person.
CL - luck be with you.
Buying in the TB classified is very safe.

| | | Marshall set up Marshall Bass Amp
I assume all of the listed prices have room to move - a few interesting options there....
