LMII Troubleshooting

Sign in to disble this ad
Used Markbass LMii arrived last night from GC and it seems like the amp goes straight to shutdown mode. I'm running it into an 8 ohm Avatar 2x10, with new cables. plug in, turn on, it lights but no brilliant bassey notes. Cables and cabs are working with my GK head. Signs its getting a signal: The clip light flashes with some bass slap and tuner plugged into tuner out gets a note. I tried one in the store and had the same problem, so im wondering if there's something i'm doing wrong. headed to return city?

Buy my LMII. :-) It's in perfect working order. I've gigged with it and it's mint. $400 plus shipping. It's all boxed up and ready to go. I own another Markbass amp and am selling this one after buying it new 1 and a half years ago. Great deal!
See my my on here under classifieds for pictures.

The new one you tried in the store -- did you try it with your 2x10 Avatar or with another cab, and if the latter, what cab was it?

Also, what happens if you do not slap? Does the amp stay on its feet?

silly question, but is the speaker cable plugged into the correct output jack on the amp?

Might have gotten banged up in shipping.

One thing to try before sending it back. The LM uses a Neutrik combo jack for the speaker output. If you are using a non-Neutrik Speakon power cable, there have been reports of those cables cutting out and even not working. Try a different speaker cable (either real Neutrik if you have one or just a regular 1/4" cable in either jack).

If that isn't it... back it goes.

You can also try running it without a speaker cable connected. It should NOT go into protect mode. If it does, it's broken.

If you don't have a 1/4" speaker cable with which to test, you can use a guitar cable for the test. Just don't crank things.

Some LMII's (like mine) will not work even with a Neutrik brand speakon cable; since I bought it used, I'm in 1/4" land

If there is even a hint of a problem return it as these are expensive to fix outside of waranty

If it powers on with no load add your regular speaker cable, no cab, and try again. If it fails you cable is at fault. Then add a different cab if you can and try yet again. This way you can isolate each item from blame.

My non-Neutrik brand speakon only works in one direction! I had to label one end 'amp' and one end 'cab' as I often plugged in and got no sound.

No brainer really. If you've just bought it and it doesn't work, take it back.

Sounds like you may have a bridge cable. Check its connections. Both ends should be wired +1 and -1.

+1 Most of these issues are a bit of user error. The LMII uses standard Neutrik combo jacks. As long as you have Neutrik speakons, you should have no problem. If you do, it is most likely the cable.
