Looking for advice on a small combo amp

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi!

I'm shopping for a small combo amp to use for band practice and small gigs. We practice at quite a low volume and gigs are in small places so it doesn't need to pump out a massive volume. We play mostly reggae and ska but also some rock. I would like the amp to be quite small and light to carry.

I have been thinking about the Hartke A35, A70 or the Gallien Krueger MB112. Any thoughts about how they compare and which one might be a better fit for me?

Thanks!

I don't have any experience with either of the Hartke amps but I do have a GK MB115 and love it... very light, very powerful and has great tone IMO....

Thanks! The MB115 seems really good albeit a bit big for my needs.

Any more input? Any other makes/models I should consider?

I just received my mb112 today and am extremely impressed. Very easy to carry with one hand and gets plenty loud for my needs.

Checkout the tc electronic Combo450. It has killer features like built-in tuner, headphone amp, three presets, multi-band compressor, tubetone, and it sounds great.

Last weekend I did a small gig with a country band - electric guitar, acoustic guitar, e-drums and bass - and used my GK MB112. Plenty loud enough, ultra portable and doesn't take up much space on a small stage.

I have the Hartke A70. I use it at home (apartment) for practice (has headphone jack) and have brought it to jam sessions in a friend's basement. Weight is around 50 pounds, solid build cabinent, tilt-back option, 7 band equalizer, active and passive input, input for CD/IPOD. I tried the A35 and A100 in the music store before ordering the A70; the A35 (10 inch speaker)seemed like it could be lacking in power in a group setting while the A100 (15 incher) seemed like overkill for my personal needs. Very happy with the A70 (12 incher), plenty of power for smaller venue.

Do a search for Roland CB100. Very gig worthy affordable amp. I have used my Markbass rig only once in the past three years, preferring to take the portable Roland. It's impressive.
