Looking for an amp, maybe a Fender Rumble 350 2x10?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

I've been playing for just over 3 years now, and I'm looking to buy an amp that I can gig with. I have $800.00 in gift cards to a local music store in Toronto, so it would probably be something new.

I saw this in a music store and tried it out. It seemed good to me. It had a good amount of EQ knobs and settings (IMO anyway) and sounded awesome with my bass (although it was my first time plugging into anything bigger than my practice amp). But I don't know how experts view it. I know it's a good bang for it's buck, but playing the bass is a serious hobby of mine, and I'd like to buy something good that I'd have for a while. I think I'd rather get a good head and cab, but I know that's serious doe. I wouldn't want to go over $1000.

I pretty much just play rock stuff. Classics like Hendrix and Floyd, to modern stuff like Arctic Monkeys. Right now I have a Stagg mock-Jazz style bass, but am looking to maybe get a Warwick in the near future, but I'm not sure on that yet either.

Thanks in advance.

I first had the Fender Rumble 60 and it was a great way to start off, etc. The Fender 350 with (2) 10's will give you a lot more power and you should keep it longer ( jamming, small gigs) .....................

I'd go for the Fender Bassman 250/210 over the Rumble if you can get one of those instead.

+1. I had one for a few years, just sold it to buy one of the new GKMB210s, and I'm completely regretting having sold it. My Fender 250 (mine was with the 115) was louder and deeper sounding than the GK w the 210s and added MBE15. :/ It was much easier to lug around also, as it had wheels. I returned the GK.

You might also want to go the head an cab route as it'll leave you open for some growth in the future. There are many micro heads out there that pack lots of wattage and sound. I'm 150% happy with my carvin bx500 which only cost around $400. It's got 500 watts and more power than I've ever needed in any situation. That head, with a Bergantino NV610 has proved to be my holy grail. It's the first time in over 20 yrs of gigging that I'm completely satisfied with my amplification. I have no fear now of any club. My setup can handle em all with volume to spare. The Berg cost a bit though.

I wish Fender didn't stop making the Bassman 250/115.

I'm looking at the TB-600 with the 115 Pro cab (or the 215 )

buy a new crown XLS 1000, a Tech21 VT Bass pedal to drive it and a second hand cab. It'll cost less than $1000 and you will have a much better rig

+1 ... i had a Fender Bassman 250 (the one with the 15" speaker), and it was really great...

right now, i have an ampeg SVT4 Pro and a 2x12 hartke alumuinum cab, and believe it or not ... i wish i could just turn back time and not sell my Fender Bassman, and not get the ampeg SVT4 - that's because the Fender Bassman was more practical (i dont play stages that can pack more than 50 people).

Seems like you're limited to a specific store. What else do they offer?

Personally, I think you could do better than a fender rumble with $800, but I don't know much about Canadian money.

Yeah, I've spent a lot of the day looking up stuff and this looks like a good route. I've seen that pedal do some awesome things on Youtube, especially the deluxe version.

Anyways, with that in mind. What would be a good starter cab? Right now, I'd only be jamming, but eventually would like to do some shows.

And I mean more of setup, like 4x10, 2x15, etc. I'm really new at this stuff. Maybe I should just walk into a store and let my ears decide.

I would assume it is Long and McQuade. They sell GK, Markbass and Mesa as well as Traynor and the Fender amp lines.

That Fender Rumble 350 will be about $600 Canadian after the 13% sales tax.

Canadian dollar = 98 cents US.

I have the Rumble 350 2x10. The newer version basically is the bassman technology re-branded and made in China. It is a completely fine amp. Fills any small to medium club, and has a good workable tone. I am starting to think that the covering is simply shiny black painted paper shopping bags as it tears if you sneeze at it...

The problem is that up here a Little Mark 2 is $900, and no used market to speak of. That store charges $700 + for a used GK800RB. The Fender wouldn't be a bad choice as it would get you a giggable rig and leave cash over for your anticipated bass upgrade.

For that kinda money, and wanting to gig, I'd be looking at a good head of around 300-500 watts, and an even better cab in the 2x12-4x10 range.

$700 US will get you this combo with a removable 500 watt head, sounds pretty sweet from the media clips.

I like the rumble series a lot for the money and think they'd do you just fine for long-term playing if you do mostly rock. I use a rumble 60 regularly for small gigs, anything more I usually go through the subs in the PAs.

I'm going to get the Fender. It did sound good to me, and financially right now I can't really drop serious cash on a great rig... If I need to upgrade one day I will, I can always sell this thing. Thanks

Very nice indeed.
You should be able to get one with that $ you have.

Right. I have a nice Genz Benz set up, but I still lug my 250/115 to practices and it would do just fine at the bar gigs we've done so far. I beat the heck out of it and crank it up constantly and it does great. The more I play it the more I like it.

They still have new ones sitting around at the music store where my kid takes drum lessons
