Looking for big lowend in a small-medium size cabinet

I've started playing electric bass in louder groups (again) and my Wizzy 12 is barely cutting it for getting big lowend at the volume I need. I almost always boost the lows considerably and cut the mids and highs. I use a flat-strung 4-stringer in standard tuning, and for the music that I need more volume, there isn't any sense in me occupying anything beyond 41hz-1khz.

Small PA sub? Acme Flatwound?

Ampeg Portaflex PF500 and PF115 cab. For the tone, weight, and price- you can't go wrong. I'm a fan of 2x15 cabs and I run a big low end myself, and can say that if you get a good PF115 cab- you wont be disapointed.

How about one of the new Acmes (Flatwound or Full-range)?

For a doubler, the Audiokinesis Thunderchild would be a good bet. MUCH more volume at a wider sonic range than the Wizzy, 4ohm version so that it sings with a 400-500 watt micro amp, great upper midrange dispersion on stage if that is important to you, a great voicing switch that allows it to mimic a one way cab for older school tones, etc. Puts out a bit wump down low up to around 50hz, and can take a bit of EQ below that also.

Not cheap, but very 'studio monitor' pure, and a surprising low end response that maintains control at relatively high volumes. Nice box for doublers!

The Acme Flatwound would probably give you a 'more of the Wizzy' thing if you are more interested in low end than an even upper mid and treble response. That cab also comes in 4ohm version, but needs a bit more power to open up the bigger low end of that box. Not sure about doubling with that one... lots of deep low end.

I have a few clips of each cab (actually, the Acme is the two way 'FullRange', not the more old school Flatwound) up on my Youtube channel that might be helpful at least with EB as a sound source.

Thanks for the responses - I'll keep my eyes open for those on the used market (hopefully local).

My 12/6=light (39lbs) & great low end. Add micro head and you have serious thump at under 50lbs. Add a 12/sub if you really want some low end.

Ampeg SVT 410hlf. It is small and not as heavy as its bigger brothers though it still clocks in at almost 100 lbs. The low end response that this cab cranks out is just amazing. It is tuned to a crazy 28 hrs. Mine is a 2006 and is American made. You can pick up a decent used one for about 400 dollars. It's a great cab.
