looking for a combo.......maybe

Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys I have an Ampeg B100R that I've had loaned out for a couple years. I just got it back but it needs a speaker. My normal rig is an Eden WT800 and either an Eden 610 or Aguilar 410 but a band I'm working with alot lately is a low volume acoustic type gig and I don't need so much power or that big of a rig. My question is this....how do the new combos that are out compare to the B100R? I haven't used a combo in awhile. Is it worth trying to find a speaker for the Ampeg? Most of the speakers I've found are rated at 300 watts and up and I'm afraid the Ampeg will underpower it and it won't last. I did have an Eden Metro once but it wass EXTREMELY unreliable so I will not be going in that direction. I would greatly appreciate any input or advice. Thanks Joe

Check out the Mesa Walkabout, which is by far my favorite combo amp.

Also, check out the forum sticky on "underpowering."

Carvin also

Carvin's new line of combos look really nice. Plenty of power, nice and light, excellent EQ section.

The 15" combo is 250w at $399.00.

I have a Carvin BR515N which rocks and has a ton of power...I also have a B100r. Both are really cool and I would get a 4 ohm neo speaker for the B100r as you can hit its sweet spot at a lower volume.

Write down your model #, email it to Ampeg customer service and they will email you their SKU # and a phone # to call to order it.

It will be about $160+ shipping

That amp is worth saving. Also, apparantly depending on your model # they will offer a different speaker....which I thought was interesting and they told me there were actually design differences for different years. I'm guessing there are only 2 different speakers though and the difference has something to do with MIA and MIC made models.

Lots of good options out there but for your situation as you put it "low volume acoustic type gigs".....you won't get anything better for the cost of a new speaker.
