| | | | Looking for a new 6x10 or 8x10

Hello Everyone! So basically I'm looking for help in finding a 6X10 or possibly 8X10. The real problem is I live in Iowa and the only music shop around here doesn't really have much to my liking or really much at all. However, I'm about an hour away from a GC which I've yet to check out for this purpose.
I've got a warwick thumb 5 bolt on and a Little Mark 800 which I'm currently running through an old ampeg 4X10.
I'm looking for something with a few more speakers and a bit more stage presence and since I know how much a cab affects overall tone I'm nervous to go with the first 6x10 im interested in with good reviews online. So I thought giving those with more knowledge than myself a list of my gear might aid me in my search.
If it helps at all, the band I'm in is linked in my signature. I'm hoping for something to complement our sound as best I can.
Though I've never been great with expressing my tone desires in bass vocabulary I am looking for something deep, clear and punchy.
So far I've checked out the WARWICK 611 6X10 and a USED MESA BOOGIE 6X10 BASS CABINET 6.0 which I think handles 900W
Beating the prices on used gear on guitarcenter.com has prooved difficult in other searches so far. Trying to keep the price between $600 - $1000
Long time reader, first time poster. You guys are great and thanks to anyone who offers help. |

As mentioned, Berg's NV610 is also a great cab, but it's sound is more like Ampeg's 810 - killer mids, but not as much low end as the Mesa or SWR, and no horn...

+1
Bergantino NV610, best 6x10 I've ever heard. |

| | | | Awesome, thank you for the replies.
Thinking of it, I've heard of the bergantino and remember hearing good things. My only concern is that looking at the website it says it handles 750W at 4 ohms and my Head is 800W 4 ohms. To me that sounds like it would be fine, but I've always had a cab that could handle more than what my amp can give so I'm not positive on whether I'd be cheating myself in any way.
At first glance no horn bothered me a bit, but based on what I've read I don't see it being an issue at all.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm going to keep looking. The Mesa is only $450 used on guitarcenter.com so I was eyeing that pretty hard.
Are any of these suggestions based on my other gear?
Thanks again, I'm going to keep digging through all your suggestions! |

But Mesa cabs are great & I doubt you'd find a NV610 for $450 - in Aus IMPOSSIBLE but in USA -??? But the NV is a sealed cab & as said- has no tweeter- good as far as MY needs go but YMMV.
& the 750w of the NV610 will be FINE with yr 800w amp

Thanks again, I'm going to keep digging through all your suggestions! | re: wattage discrepancies... never rely solely on the numbers. the key is to trust your ears, and don't push a piece of gear harder than it wants to go either by using too much volume or with excessive EQ and you won't have to worry about blowing speakers. basically, if the cab starts to fart out, you're reaching its limits, so turn down and/or stop boosting the low end so much. the numbers can give you a basic idea of an amp or cabs limitation, but they paint an incomplete picture.

However I currently use a Mesa PowerHouse 6x10 and this cabinet is just simply awesome! Loud and clear sound and is built very very solid. By far one of the best investments I have made rig wise. I bought it from a GC used and had a few road wares (again it is used and I look at sound over cosmetics as long as it is not a total junker) and I got it a very great price too. I would suggest this cabinet personally, I have yet to be disappointed. 8x10 sound in a smaller weight and size.

1. the berg is unlike any of these others.... id say its better for a tube amp
2. The Ampeg is really hit or miss with people, seemingly more miss

Ampeg 810E will do the job as well. No matter where you live these cabs get shipped in. Shop around..... |

I can get it up & down stairs unassisted. And IF I do get help, there are handles and casters in all the right places for BOTH lifters.
I got my last one for Dirt from a guy on CL who was tired of dealing with it. $350 IIRC...

Disagree on the weight - I thought 185lbs didn't sound right, and checking SWR's site shows it listed at 145lbs... I thought it was significantly lighter than my PH810, which is 173lbs - although very manageable for it's weight...

You can get a lot more bang out of a smaller lighter package. There is a lot of information here on TB and on the Greenboy Forums. Just for comparison the 15/6 cab can get at loud as a 610 and weighs around 50 pounds, the 1212/6 can get as loud as an 810 and weighs 70 pounds. These cabs are the real deal, check them out.
