Have you thought of loading the first upper chamber or two with the new eminence Legends or Jensen Mod 50's? It will make a LOT of difference in your tone...

this is not a bad way to go from what folks have told me. the mod 50's will cut way down on power handling but the legend b810's won't.

How about the Mesa Powerhouse 810, new GK Neo 810, custom Emperor 810, or a Berg 610? Tons of choices.

I thought about swapping the speakers out but I don't think the speakers are the problem. I think its the wood ampeg used to construct the cab that's the problem. I think the wood absorbs the highs. That's why I'm looking for a new cab

nope. the wood has nothing to do with the lack of highs. it's definitely the speakers that they used in them. they rapidly fall of at everything over 2Khz.

I have cranked my SVT, 300T, and good ole Peavey Firebass into my 810E that has 4 Jensen mod 50's and it has not flinched. It is a fantastic upgrade (if you need more highs) that doesn't cost an arm and leg...

yep. i have four mod50's (32 ohm) in the top four slots in my 2001 ampeg 8x10 and coupled with four of the original 10's, it sounds great. it has plenty of mids & highs and still has alot of low end too. it reminds me of my old straightback back now, only it has more bottom. i run it with either a '69 SVT or an '07 VR and it handles them with ease.

Do either of you guys have any experience with the legend b810 speakers? I don't want to worry about wattage or blowing a speaker up on stage.

I also have a Ampeg 810 that has the Jensen MODS in the upper 4 quadrant they made a huge differance in getting some good midrange & highs, it was like someone pulled a blanket off the cabinet after I installed the Jensen MODS, I regularly pound it with a Fender Bassman 1200 Pro or a VT pedal and a Crown XTI 2000, the issue of reduced wattage is really not an issue, if your using a Ampeg SVT-CL ... it all boils down to how much money you want to spend, the issue of wood really doesn't matter ... IMHO, Ampeg just cheaped out in the mid 1990's and used OSB ( Flakeboard ) and the speakers just happened to be the crap ones that just plain sound dark & muffled ..... but if your wanting a nice sounding cabinet that is NON- Ampeg check out the Berg NV 610 ... best sounding 10" cabinet out there ... IMHO ... it's the one I drag out to gigs, I use the Ampeg 810 at the rehearsal studio, where i can abuse it

i don't, but i read a thread on here where someone bought both b810's and mods, and he said he liked the mods a little better because they were a little brighter, but he said the b810's were still pretty bright. one of these days i'll be able to afford experimenting, but for now i'll have to settle for taking everyone's word for it

The Heritage 810 might be worth looking into.

I'd love to try an all Orange rig. They are 1 of only a few brands I've not yet owned. I may have to get on that. There is something that just looks right about a full Orange rig...

i do agree with you but 2 years ago there prices were half of what they are now. and i highly doubt they spent twice as much making the same product or twice as much on anything. plus i would probably buy it in black if it wasnt 2100 dollars. lol
