Truthfully, that's really what im going for anyway, I always say I want SVT-esque overdrive but I find little practical use for it in my band situations. I haven't heard the Eden though, so im curious how it stacks up to the SVP-CL as far as tube warmth is concerned.

My fave? The SWR Interstellar Overdrive. Goes from warm to hot.

I use an SVP-CL through an IPR1600, and I hear exactly what you mean. I've played around with slamming the preamp and if you overdo it you lose dynamics and clarity. But when you hit the sweetspot you keep the dynamics, it gets this awesome "chimey" coloration that helps it cut through the stage sound, and it bites just a bit when you lean into it. The interaction not only sounds killer, it compels you to play better. I'm sure there are other great preamps out there, but I envy no other bassist's rig.

I have the SVP-Pro and IOD.

The IOD is HiFi (or sterile) sounding, but offers foot switch grind on demand.
The SVP-Pro is tubey, variable grind, and only EQ circuit in/out by foot switch.

IOD is dead quiet, and SVP-Pro is luck of the draw for noise. Some are, some are not.

If I was without any, I would opt for the Sansamp RPM + VT Bass pedal.
This lets me dial in any basic amp tone, then kick the foot pedal when I want grind.

RPM is modern technology, currently in production, quiet and a proven performer at a reasonable price.
SVP-Pro and IOD are both out of production and more expensive used by $100+ than a new RPM.

Maybe this is the ticket

My Carvin Redline pre that I'm selling might be just the thing. Wide tonal variety, compression, gate, SS and tube stages that you can blend between, and bi-amp capable, if you so desire.

FS Carvin RSP preamp, Crown XLS202, SKB

Terrific preamp, too! Boost the input signal, and you can get some grit out of 'em.

You want to drive an amp. Although things like the Sadowsky outboard pre can drive some amp they are not designed for it.

Several that haven't been mentioned.

Alembic F2B or F1X
BBE BMAX or the tube version BMAXXT These are basically Alembic clones but REALLY good.
Demeter you said versatile so HPB1.
I use an EBS MicroBass2 but it's not easily rack mountable because it's meant to be on a pedal board.
