Looking for the next step in building up my rig

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently purchased an SWR Workingman 4x10 and SWR Workingman 1x15, I am running these off of a Fender BXR 300r Bass amp. I am playing a Fender Mexican Jazz Bass, with Seymour Duncan Bassline Pickups, and a Badass Bass II bridge.

I gig descent size venues and I really like my lows to punch through, and my highs to be bright and growl. Which I am accomplishing to a certain extent already. I am just wondering what would be the next logical upgrade to my rig? A preamp, an equalizer pedal, or something else? I am not planning on spending alot, so cheaper is better. I don't want to be spending anything over 200-250. I also plan on building and carpeting my own amp rack, which I am also looking for help on. Thanks for your time guys, the people on this forum are just awesome. I have already learned so much in such a short time. Thanks again!

If it were me I would be torn between
1) buying a sansamp pre
2) saving up for a more powerful head.

What kind of sound are you looking for?? I think your cabs/amp can satisfy most of the sounds you try to obtain... You can try with a good outboard preamp to get a better sound from your bass; maybe a good mid control can help you to define highs and accentuate bass and growly mids... you can try a Sadowsky bass preamp/DI, Aguilar ToneHammer, Sansamp BassDriver, or maybe a Fodera 2000 with mid control and mid bypass switch that helps you to get a great slap sound...
All this options are in your price range, maybe $50 more... a cheaper option it's the Boss GEB-7, a graphic eq that can make goods things for your sound, but if you look for a really good change, go for the first options!!!

Thank you very much, I will look up more specs on these when I get home. As for building an amp rack, and carpeting it, what kind of advise do you guys have? Keep the suggestions coming!

+1 to the Aguilar Tone Hammer. One of my bass playing bretheren allowed me to check his out during rehearsal over the weekend. I was truely blown away and may go out and get one. I also liked the Markbass Super Booster, which is available at most GC locations I have been to in my area and can be had for $129.99.

As far as recarpeting an enclosure, I'm also looking for advice so let me know if you get something good PM'd to you.
Good luck in your quest to find that ultimate tone.
It really never ends

Is the markbass booster just to increase your volume or lows, rather than shape your tone? I am still new to preamps, so be kind:wink:
