Looking for a Practice Combo Amp.... GK?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Ampeg SVT and 810e cab and it's great but I am to the point where my band is practicing at two different locations and don't want to haul the fridge around.... we are very lucky to have two different places to practice in my eyes... One of the places is at my house and the other is at one of our guitarists house.

I'm looking to get a small/light weight combo for taking over to his house and also wanted a practical practice amp, I am looking at the GK MB115 and wanted to know if you guys would agree that for the money this would be the practical practice amp..... i only have about $400.00 bucks to spend on it.... it would basically be a christmas present to myself.... thanks for any input...

That's certainly where I would start, based on what I've been reading lately. If your rehearsal situation is a typical rock band, then a 1x15" combo with as much headroom as you can budget is what I'd recommend. I would check out the new Peavey neo TNT as well.

Check out the new Acoustic amps. the B20 is a nice little 20w 1x12 practice amp for $150 that many have been raving about. I was going to get one, but i need a little more output.

I just bought an acoustic b100 (100w 1x15). It's $250 at guitar center. Sounds GREAT and can hold it's own in most situations. As far as a practice amp, it's a little big...but it's cheap and amazing.

If a 1x15 is what you want...then the b200 might serve you well...it's $350 and 200w.

peace!
Skeet

Thanks for the input guys but isn't the acoustic pretty heavy? I have had back problems for a long time and the GK MB series just seems very light....

another reason I was looking at the GK is because it has a 1/8" input for jamming along with my MP3 player...

Yeah, the b100 is 53 lbs...not the lightest amp in the world...but much better than my 96 lb 4x10 cab and 40 lb SVT pro 4.

The Acoustic B20 and Acoustic 260 Mini Stack both have 1/8" inputs. But it seems like you're probably looking for something with a little more output.

good luck, let us know what you go with.

Peace!
skeet.

Thanks Skeet!!!!

I'm really digging the GK MB115, I had thought about the MB210 or the MB212 but I don't think I'll need that much power.... also heard the MB210 can be quite boomy....

I've owned about 50 amps through the years.

Overall.. headphone amps (amplug, recording deck, recording interface etc)

OR

Some type of kickback cabinet combo with a useable XLR DI... you may soon be leaving your big fridge at home.

I have an MB210 and haven't found it to be boomy. Like many other preference-related issues here on TB, the tone may be liked by some and not so much by others.
