Looking for a replacement high freq horn

Sign in to disble this ad
So I have this pretty decent combo amp, the Fender Bassman 150. Not super powerful, but perfect for my needs in most respects. The thing is that I don't always just play bass through this amp. In fact, I usually don't. That's kind of neither here nor there, but some folks in another forum thought I could get help here. I must either have damaged the high frequency horn in this amp at some point or I just generally drive it too hard so the horn crackles when I set the volume of the horn to "full" (the options are: "off", "half" and "full", essentially). I'd like to have it full on, but the crackling is pretty bad.

Any suggestions on a replacement horn that would be a relatively easy swap (I'm more than capable of the work needed) for this amp? Maybe something originally designed for a keyboard amp would carry the highs a little better.

Honestly I don't even know where to look. Here's the manual for the amp:

Unfortunately it doesn't tell you much about the horn except that it's piezo...

So, any suggestions?

Bump thinking maybe the evening crowd will have a suggestion. I can see these Bassmans are well-liked around here, so someone is bound to have an idea.

Piezo's, cheap and easy, no crossover required. Your's should already have a resistor in front of it, if it doesn't put a 4ohm 10watt resistor on the + wire.

You can have the compression driver/small horn I pulled out of the middle of my Peavey 410TX. Give me your address and I'll mail it. I have no idea if it'll work for you.
