Looking for a small combo with the best DI

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for a small combo with a great DI. I want to use it for practice, rehearsal, recordings AND gigs. Right now I have a Yorkville XM200. The DI out is not really good and the amp is to heavey and too loud for my needs. At home I have a Peavey Minx110 but there's no DI out for recordings and giging.
Wich amp do you recommand? I play in a surf/country/rock trio and I use a Stingray 4H.

The shuttles are my favorite DI--a Neox400 combo probably has a similar one. The shuttle combos are solid overall.

You could also just buy a DI box, nice to have the extra flexibility too some of them offer (e.g. the MXR M80 or BDDI)

You should also look at a Markbass CMD 121P, or one of their other combos that feature that head with various speaker configurations (there's a 2x10 and a 1x15, and the Jeff Berlin model that's 1x15 with no tweeter). The 121P is 31 lbs, 300w and sounds huge. Hook it to an 8ohm extension cab to tap all 500 watts (I have only ever had to do this for a big outdoor gig). The DI is excellent, with a great big output control knob right on the top of the combo to adjust the level going to the board.

The genz benz shuttles are my favorite DI out of any that i have played. i have owned and played almost all amps available in this day and age except the new MB or puma.. The Genz are Clean, precise, and nearly equal to the industry standard Active Countryman type 85 FET DI from my experience.
And the combos are light and get the job done

Mesa Walkabout 1x12 is a great, pro-quality, small combo with a superb DI. Lots of great descriptive posts here on TB regarding the Walkabout and its DI.

I have used mine for the past 4 years for gigging and recording, and could not be happier.

you owe it to yourself to check it out.

I love my Acoustic B-200, in my opinion; it's small enough for smaller gigs, with a line-out to PA for larger gigs...My 2 cents...zon6c-f.

I've got quite a few amps, but for you are trying to do the Line 6 lowdown 110 is perfect. I use it for practices and have brought it to a couple of gigs. It's small, lightweight, and a good DI (remember it's playing back amp models). Also relatively affordable. It has 75 watts and if you are playing with a drummer and guitar player who understand how to play together it's great.

On the other extreme... the Redhead is one of the best combos of all time. I had one and wish I would've kept it. One of the best all around combos of all time.
