Looking for smaller cab with old SVT

Sign in to disble this ad
I need a smaller cab than my standard 810 for some one-offs on the road and weekends. I want something that is full sounding like an 810, is legit looking, and can do 2 or 4 ohms. I'd also like something as wide as my SVT so that it can sit on top. My initial thought was a 410hlf, but I'm looking for some more options.

Thoughts?

Jimmy or Johnk?

Given the details you've provided, it kind of sounds like you already have your answer.

I would stick with the 410hlf. Great tone and looks great with the SVT. I've heard a lot of great things about the heritage cabs as well. Good luck.

Yeah, I think that's prob. going to the be the ticket too. I really don't want one, but it seems necessary to have something more portable.

Check out the fliptops SVT-410. It's designed to look good/pair well with the vintage SVTs. Also might be worth looking into a berg NV610, they're supposed to sound great with an SVT. I had never realized how small those things were until recently, a guy I share a practice space with has one and man is it small.

Have you tried a pair of the SVT210AVs? They should have the same sound as half of your 8x10, and be more portable. Just stack them sideways and the head "should" line up well on top (although I dont have an SVT to try it). I really enjoy mine.

My 410HLF sounded good, but didn't sound like an 8x10 is voiced. I would at least go in and take a listen to a pair with your amp/bass...

A Bergantino HS410 sounds fuller than an SVT810 and it's half the size.

I would also suggest a bergantino NV series. I tried the 410HLF with my SVT, and it sounded good of course, but the berg just sounded so much better. The 410HLF is also a little awkward to handle too due to its proportions.

I have an older SVT-212 that is a nice sized cab. Sounds decent with my B-25B and V-4 but never tried a SVT head thru it. The cab has a boomier sound so it would be different than what you might be used to.

+1 on these little guys. Very portable, and sound great.

4 ohm Avatar TB153

I just bought an 8 ohm LDS 15/6/1 and used it with my V4BH. I was impressed with how well that 3015/18sound mid combination works with a tube amp.

Nice words from everyone. I want one piece, not two. I'm going to look at fliptops, the 410 hlf and the berg 610.

I've owned both an 810E and an 410HLF.
The 410hlf was actually, in my opinion, harder to move.

I think if I wanted SVT 810 sound in a smaller package, I'd go for the Berg NV610. The 410HLF isn't voiced like the 810E really, they're very different cabs.

Agreed. I actually like the tightness of the HLF. The HLF is a start until I find a Berg locally... I'm picking up a USA HLF tomorrow and I'll re-grill it at some point next week. I actually think I'm going to start using it live versus my 810 and just leave my two 810 AV's at home.

Speaking of 810's, I have a USA made I need to sell sitting in my basement and I have a '69 I need to re-tolex

32x10's.

May I suggest you go try out a Genz Benz NeoX212T? I use it with my SVT and it sounds fantastic. It does a great job filling out a band while remaining tight and punchy. At 50lbs and with built in casters this thing is also incredibly easy to move.

Absolutely. I'm really against the look of this cab and I really want to stick to 10's, but if I can find someone that carries Genz in MD I'll go check it out .

I use to only play through 10's myself, but this Genz Benz has made me a true believer in 12's. If you can find one used and have the spare cash I'd really suggest picking it up. They run for about $500 used, which IMHO is pretty cheap considering the quality of these cabs.
