Looking for some light to be shed on a REALLY cheap Craigslist ad (GK head+8X10 $500)

Simple enough, guy about an hour away has an ad on Craigslist for this setup.

Quote:
Gallien-Krueger 1001 Rb head and Gold Line GLX 8 x 10 cab for sale $500.00, Rig is in perfect condition and I paid well over $2000.00 for this set up, call XXX-XXX-XXXX

Now I've been kind of looking for a decent 8X10 setup for a little while. I don't necessarily need it, but just pondering uping my gear a little.
Currently I'm playing on an SWR Workingmans 4004 head and an SWR 4X10 cab. Works great, love it, no issues with dialing in my 2 basses and making em sound great. It's 400 watts and the GK is 700. My first practice with these new guys I'm jamming with was a little loud on their parts. I had to push my setup to 8-9 just to cut thru all the gain that the guitar players were pushing. Every practice after that has been calmer and in the 5-6 range. These guys are killer guitarists with lots of previous band experience. So I know we'll be gigging within 3 months.

Anyways. Just dabbling in the idea of upgrading my gear. I can afford to jump on this but won't cry if I don't. The price is kind of scaring me. I looked it up and the setup should run $1500 minimum brand new. Not sure if he's going so cheap on it because it's busted up a little, or because it's so big that he's prolly having a hard time selling it.
Just looking for some thoughts from experienced bass guys as I've only really played bass for 2 years, and gotten more serious in the last 3 months. I come from a guitar background so my bass gear knowledge is still kind of juvenile.

Go for it!! The 1001RB-II is awesome. You would not regret it. I've heard those Goldline cabs are kinda meh though. I'd say $500 is a good buy.

Um, play through it and make sure everything and all jacks/knobs work before you buy...

Yeah I fully intend to. I'm still in the process of doing some research for this gear. The head I'm not too worried about. I read somewhere that this gold coned cab isn't ported, so I'll need to double check if it'll pump out the tones I'm looking for.

The Goldlines are garbage, but if the head works as it should, and you like the tone of the cab - go for it.

Because of the cab, I would not say this is REALLY cheap.

Cool beans. Thanks for the input guys. Kind of changed my mind on the whole thing and really given me the outlook I was expecting.
I think it was really in the market for it, I'd consider the head and prolly just pawn off the cab or try to sell it. If I could get a couple hundred for it it would maybe make the head worth getting.

Appreciate the help guys
