Looking for something that will fit in the back seat of my car. :)

Hi,
I've been out of the amp/equipment loop for quite a long time. Just wanted to general info on what's hot.

I'm looking for a rig that I can play at small and medium sized venues that will have nice deep punch, but also need to throw it in the back seat of my car.

I've heard some people talk about Markbass, and they definitely seem interesting.

Any suggestions?

I don't mind combo or separate head/cab, as long as it fits in my car. Oh, and money isn't much of an object if the rig sounds great.

Thanks

MarkBass CMD 102P 2x10 combo with Standard 102HF cabinet.

500 watts, 4x10" speakers, and modular. You're all set.

P.S. Budget would be greatly helpful

Thanks for the info. Did you read the last part of my post? Money is not an object.

Also, I didn't quite understand your suggestion. Are you saying the combo in addition to the separate cab?

Thanks
Joe

If money is no object, how big is the back seat of your car?

My car is a G37, so my back seat is cramped. And Im limited to about an 18 x 15 area to load the cabinet in. If you have a 4 door sedan, that opens up a lot more options.

You could always get 2 small barefaced cabs. Get a nidacore fearful, the new vertical Berg A212, etc. Genz Benz vertical 212 with a Shuttle head. There are many many many choices.

Genz Benz Streamliner 900 amp + one or two Genz Benz NEOX 2x12 cabs

or

Ampeg Micro-VR + one or two matching 2x10 cabs

I have no personal experience with these but reviews have been very positive here at TB for these light weight relative small rigs. I use big, heavy stuff.

There's so much great micro stuff out there that you have lots of choices (and you're going to get lots of suggestions). You'll probably need several cars to carry it all

This is an 8x10 cab in the back seat of a chevy aveo, so something that fits in your back seat gives quite a lot of options. What are your tonal goals? What kind of back seat? One smaller cab, one mid-sized cab? larger cab? a bunch of small cabs? How many watts? Playing out or just on your own/small group rehearsals? Budget range? Volume needs? What kind of basses are you playing?

I've put an Ampeg 810 in the back of both a 1992 and a 2007 Accord sedan on the same day. (I sold it to a TBer with an Accord too!)

+1 for Streamliner and neo cabs.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I know I left out a lot of details, sorry about that. So here goes...

- I have a small 4 dr sedan that I love and will not give up.
- I know I can fit a 1x12 combo (Fender Bassman). I can just barely get it through the door.
- I have several basses, but mostly play my Rickenbacker with flat wound strings because I like a very deep and warm tone. I'm not big on bright and tinny, but I do like a bit of punch.
- Considering that I like deep tones, I'm at a bit of a loss because I haven't been keeping up on what's out there.
- I like high wattage amps, because I find that even at low volume, it still sounds great (low wattage amps kind of die off at mid volume).
- I actually like sub-woofer sound with a good tweeter (I'm not big on mids).
- I'm getting old and really don't feel like lugging too much heavy stuff around.
- Money isn't that much of an object, but I'm not going to go out and buy a bigger vehicle (and I'm not rich).

So I've been searching through all the threads that are similar to mine, but most are kind of old and some of the equipment might be outdated by now.

So, do any of you techie bass players know what I might be looking for?

- Powerful head with EQ.
- Small but deep and warm cab.
- Or even a combo will work.

All suggestions are welcome.
Thanks

Can these neo cabs get really deep tones? I remember trying out GK cabs (several years ago) and they all sounded like too much mids and highs.

SWR goliath senior 6x10 fits nicely in the back seat of my 2005 Pontiac Sunfire.

If you want the sub woofer lows then maybe you should look at a pair of Acme B2's.

What kind of car? It kinda matters lol. Like others I have done some good jobs on packing a car... Last show for my band I fit an Eden410, Eden 210, 4 space rack, 2 space rack and two basses in hardshells all in my car... which is 91 Camaro.

Now I regret even mentioning my car. How about this, something light and powerful that has deep tone and warmth almost like you're playing a 70's tube amp with a really heavy cab. It's 2011, someone must have come up with something that simulates this. I don't slap bass, I don't care for brightness. I'm looking for that low warm tone of most 60's and 70's bands, only without the weight. I feel like this is such a simple request that should be easily answered. Do they make them or not? If so, what are your recommendations?

Carvin BX1500 bridged (900 watts)...

into a...

12/6 fEARful. - Dimensions: 16.5"w x 24"h x 15.25"d, and Light (37 lbs. about), LOUD, DEEP lows and with the mid you won't need a tweeter and with the BX1500 you can dial in ANY tone you like.

And before any fEARful bashers chime in (like they've ever played through one) it is only as bright or clean sounding as you want it to be. I can get a vintage vibe going no problem. I own a Carvin BX1200 (precursor to the BX1500, basically the same amp only mine's heavier and not quite as much watts) and a fEARful 15/6 (same tonal profile as the 12/6, but you wanted something small).

LOL you need to find a builder for these cabs??? Man, they better be worth it to go through all that trouble and have the patience to wait (which I highly doubt considering all the other cab competition out there). But what do I know?

Anyhow, thanks for the feedback, I'll check out the BX1200.
