looking for a step up in amp tone and power

I know this will probably just get filled with comments about people having varied opinions, but im just curious. I'm looking at half stacks/ stacks mostly under or just over $1000 new (head and cabinet/cabinets). I'm tired of having nothing better than brief internet reviews for advice in choosing and im just curious what amps/ companys would make in that price range or under.

i was looking at a peavey tour 700 with an 8x10 or a couple smaller cabinets

for this kind of question, you will get more useful advice if you state what kind of music you are playing, tone goals, volume expectations, what gear are you trying to step up from etc. etc.

one thing I would suggest is stay with a modular concept. So, unless you think you will be rocking an 8x10 on every gig, perhaps consider 2 4x10 cabs. You can use one cab on smaller gigs and rehearsals, then add the other cab when needed.

There are so many super powerful, and very light heads out these days, like Genz, GK, SWR, TC Electronic, its hard to miss them, but you need to know what you want out of your amp. Then again, there is the tubes, hybrid, SS decision too.

Your budget seems very reasonable, particularly if you will consider used gear.

So, come back and offer more guidance on what your playing situation is and you should get some great replies.

good luck
