Looking used, I'm finally going to bite the bullet. Acoustic or Fender?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have the cash in hand, its just decision making time.

Some Acoustic half stack
vs
Fender Rumble 150

Amp>$200 (I know I can get the fender that cheap but not sure about the acoustic)

Basically for travel and price which is better? As per price can I get the Acoustic for way lower than the fender.

I like the fender, pleanty loud, sounds good etc but I'm wondering if I'm better off going the Acoustic route so I can afford a half stack. Personally I dislike Acoustic amps, even less than mark bass (whaaaa!!!?? Who said that!?). They sound ok at best to me, but since they're super cheap and maybe a half stack is better in certain respects than a combo. Plus how hard is it to make a Musicman and a Pbass sound bad? Anyways...

Which would you go for?

Thanks

Personally, i would go for the acoustin b200h, and the 4x10. its what i use, and i have not had a single problem. the 200w head is the loudest 200w SS head i've heard. it can really keep up. the cab is a tank too. it's worth keeping if you feel like upgrading.
some people gripe about the b200h's reliability, but i have yet to have it suffer. it's a great head. it's a bit mellow sounding, which is why i have a Sansamp to go with it.
get a PDDI, or a bass driver, or a VT (the VT is your best choice), and you will NOT be unhappy.

as far as combo vs stack goes, the fender combo is a good amp, but buying a stack is an investment, you can upgrade the head next, and then add more cabs, and so forth. the acoustic 4x10 is an amazing cab IMO. so im keeping it, and getting another, and upgrading to a higher power head.

You like the Fender and what it does. If it's enough amp for you, buy it. Don't waste your money on the Acoustic. It just doesn't make any sense to buy one you like less simply because it's something different.

Yeah, color me unimpressed with the new Acoustic - it's kinda like Ampeg calling their crappy SS amps, "SVTs"...

Fender. Doesn't make sense to invest in a half stack that you don't like the sound of and has pathetic resale. Get the combo you like, then save for the half stack you really like!

Fender. My bassman 250(2-10) sounds better than alot of "bigger" rigs. The rumble isn't far off.

Im Rockin a Acoustic B200H on a 4x10 and i love it but at the end of the day it might not be a bad idea to go for the fender. I would check to make sure the fender (im pretty sure that the 150 is a combo) has speaker outs because if it's got them then when your ready all you will need to do is go out and buy your self a better speaker cab and you got the half stack

Fender. They sound great for playing in bands. My bassman 250 sounds better than alot of "bigger" rigs. It's especially true on small stages. They seem a little louder than what they claim as well. Case in point: I compared a landmark 300 with a 2-"12 (I had bought)to a rumble 150 I was using on loan(my guitarists') and the rumble was not only louder, it sounded better. I couldn't believe it. I spent $900 on that rig only to be outdone by the little fender.
