Lots of practice amps

Sign in to disble this ad
Would it be possible/okay to go from your bass to a headphone splitter, to another headphone splitter to another (and so on) into a bunch of practice amps? My drummer has a ton of little amps and I've got a billion splitters... Would it be loud enough to be heard? and what would occur?
This idea came to me in a dream... I thought it would look really cool.. like, a ton of practice amps hooked up and stacked on top of each other? Awesome. I'd love to try, but I'll be gone for a while... well, that and my drummer doesn't want to let me steal his amps :P
Thanks!
-AJ

My friend tried to do that with 2 practice amps, but it didn't work. Maybe he didn't do it right, idk. The signal going through all those connections would start to die as it went farther down, though.

Ah... true... you could put it through a headphone amp... I've got a samsun headphone amp that'd probably work with, actually!

I used to be in aband that tried out a guitarist with 8 practice amps DUCT TAPED together. It was loud enough. It sounded awful.

That is quite strange that you would mention that this came to you in a dream, cause I totally had a dream where before setting up for a gig this other bass player was showing me his rig which consisted of a ton of little mini marshalls. There must have been 100 or so. He was going on about how it got him the sound he liked although I have no idea what it sounded like as the dream phased out after that. Did you by a chance have the exact same dream? Cause that would be really strange. So anyways I would go ahead and not recommend doing that because as it turns out once you get past 88 amps you open up a worm hole and everyone knows that worm holes are very very bad. Don’t do it! I lost my dog in one of those things, in other words if you like distortion go for it!

hey, if it doesn't cost you money, try it out!!

but I am pretty sure you would run into phase response issues

I'm pretty sure if his plan is to jury rig a bunch of practice amps together, phase issues is the least of his worries

(Not getting electrocuted is probably the first...)

Back in the '70s I recall seeing Cheap Trick play a few times with what looked like stacks of small combo amps on both sides of the stage.
The trick is giving each amp a good signal from the instrument, and this is more technically advanced than using a bunch of headphone splitters.

It can be done, but not on the cheap.

Okay, im going to do it. I'm actually going to do it with a guitar at first... Sorry . But I've got about, erm... 6? And I figure with a 4 output headphone amp, a splitter... I can get it to work. When I get back home (spring break ftw) I'll test it. I'll keep y'all postid and record the child about to be born
