Loud crack when pushing mute switch.

I have an EDEN ENX260 Head, and recently I've started getting a very loud, high pitched crack when I push the mute button. This started happening after I installed a new pickup in my bass. The pickup is working perfectly (unless it is causing this issue). The pickup is a hand wound Vintage style J pickup, which was wound by a very experienced winder. There is a stacked Vol / Tone pot in a passive circuit.

Wow, I sure missed the obvious on that one! I just dug out another bass and had the same result.

The problem must be with with the head.

Or with the cord. Long shot but worth a try, even if you have to use a short stomp box patch cord for a quick test.

Acid test is try the switch with no cord plugged in.... then you know its the head.

Pretty sure it is anyway, not like the mute switch is putting out some sort of EMP that the new pickups could be picking up.

Maybe the Mute switch just needs cleaning. I'd try placing the unplugged amp upright and carefully spraying a little Deoxit http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...US369&q=deoxit between the small gap of your mute button and the amps face plate so hopefully gravity will help carry the cleaner down into the inner switch area. Then immediately operate the switch several times, wait a little while for everything to dry and see if it helped.
