The one I had here moved empty pop bottles across he floor, and shook every ounce of dust off the shop rafters.. Definitely overkill umless you had to shout down two full Marshall stacks.. and i wouldn't want to be in that band..

I got kudos for the sound of this after nearly every gig, from regular joes and touring acts alike.

When people started mentioning rigs played through sound systems I just let it go since it seemed like it could still be a fun thread.

I dont have to go full bore with it all the time, but I fear no venue.

Anyways...
Don't have many other live music experiences to compare it to, but yeah, when I saw Lightning Bolt a while back they were bloody LOUD. Like, I-even-wore-fitting-earplugs-and-STILL-my-ears-were-ringing-for-a-week. Heck, I was even fatigued after the show because the bass was literally like a wall of sound crashing against my body every second.
According to the man himself, his rig is rated at 3000 watts. | I've just GOTTA meet this dude!!!!
And then tell him how to properly spell his name
OK, just had to do that, now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Currently driving it with an ART pro Channel II into one side of a Crown iTech 6000 [3,000 watts @ 4 ohms]. It gets louder than anything I care to stand 12' in front of even outdoors with me facing in the other direction.

Even outdoors it positively deafened with the midrangey bass, midrangey pre, and midrangey cabinets.

I think most times it was 2x(215+400+) and once it was 4 stacks. |

It was also very defined; I could hear every note he played. Awesome concert.
I saw Entwistle from the front row in 1980 at the Salt Palace; I lucked out and ended up with him directly in front of me before the stage lights came on, but I don't recall his sound being brutally loud. Townshend's was, -from across the stage.
The loudest rig I've owned was a G-K 2000RB in bridge/mono through an SWR Goliath Sr. 6-10" cab.
And my friend's mid 70's SVT head plugged into it's matching 8-10" cab in his band's cinderblock garage that was converted into a rehearsal room. That setup punched me in the chest so hard, it was hard to catch my breath.

It was scary how loud, clean and LOW it would/can go. | What ever happened with that ELF system? I remember reading about it in Bass Player (back in the mid 90s), thinking it seemed like a great idea, and calling all over the country trying to buy it with no success. Did it ever make it into production? |

I have toyed with the idea of powering my Berg HT210/HT115 cabs with one channel of my CA9 and the 212's with the other channel on an outdoor gig, but I haven't played one in quite a few years. Maybe someday.

This makes me realize how freakin' old I really am.! The stage had a Gothic/Castle backdrop or something. Neither Geezer's or Tony's amps were visible. I do remember Geezer was playing a B.C. Rich Eagle bass.
I saw them later that year in Salt Lake City, and their amps were still behind a backdrop IIRC. They were incredibly loud, but Tony was having feedback problems throughout the show.
Somewhere, I still have the Tour Program. I was hugely influenced by Geezer Butler at that time, and seeing the band live in London was a real event. I liked how his bass tone had grit, yet was distinct at the same time, and had massive punch.

In the mid 70's I was in a hard rock band in Minocqua, WI. I used an SVT with two cabinets. One was a 2X15 West cabinet, with two EV SRO 15's...the original coffee can types. The cabinet was made of inch thick particle board...very heavy. The other cabinet was a huge Carvin folded horn 2X15. Quite a loud rig, and I never needed PA support. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
