I've been looking through heads recently and was wondering which is the loudest (but not bad sounding) for an 8ohm 4x10 (400W) cab. thats in a decent price range ($400 max probably)

There is no way to predict how an arbitrary head will sound with your unnamed 410 cabinet.

Most heads will provide plenty of power to a 410; it's usually the speaker that runs out of steam first.

And as for "not bad sounding," that's completely subjective. You might as well ask "What's a meal that tastes good."

Carvin B2000? It's more than your budget but it's probably the most amplifier you can get for your dollar in a bass head. It would also blow that 410 to kingdom come if you don't control your volume.

From what I have seen, Gallien Krueger seem to be a pretty good amp to deliver a decent amount of power. Currently have my GK700RBII on its way in the mail and cant wait to plug it in. Will probably deliver plenty of power (320W @ 8ohm from memory?) to your 410. Apparently, GK's also sou really loud for their stated power, and you could probably pick up a decent second hand GK for your price range.

Cheers,
Jordan

In that price range, your best bet is probably a used Markbass LMII or a used GK 700RBII.

hartke LH1000.

750 watts into 8ohms. I can tell you it's loud as hell through my 8ohm 2X12 Avatar with DeltaLFs.

Isn't the LH1000 putting out 1k watt @8ohm bridge?

I second Carvin, both the BX1500 and B2000 gives you lots of juice at 8 ohm. Used (BX1200 or B1500), they are close to the OP's budget.

One of those used carvins would work. Personally, if you're only going to use it at 8 ohms I'd stay away from the LMII. I as much as I love mine it does not do as well at 8 ohms as it does at 4 ohms.

I'm driving an 8 ohm LDS 15/6(fearful style) cab with a peavey DPC 1000 poweramp which does 1000w at 8 ohms bridged. Paid $350 for it. You'd still need a pre of some sort, but I'm using a VT Bass which cost me $125 used and the combination sounds awesome.
