LOUDEST lightweight standalone 1x12?

Sign in to disble this ad
Regardless of tonal characteristics, what do people think is the LOUDEST lightweight (under 40lbs) 1x12 cabinet available (for use as a standalone). I own several heads, but would most likely be using a GK MB-500 for this particular rig. For the purposes of this question, I'm purely interested in volume, not tone. Thoughts? Thanks!

IMO, most likely a cab with an Eminence 3012HO in it.

or possibly
Schroeder mini 12+ (regular=25lbs/500w, or the light =20lbs 400W). both are 100dB@ 1w/1m
Accugroove Tri112L (38lbs) 400w 100db@1w/1m

I'm gonna say the Schroeder 12L+. It's mostly mids, but that can be dialed down with your 'contour' to sound pretty good.

That hasn't been my experience so far with my fEarful 15/6. They will handle a lot of power and get VERY LOUD, to be sure; but I don't think they require an unusual amount of power. As I recall, high efficiency was a design goal.

the 15/6 is pretty efficient, but the 12/6 really isn't.
the 3015LF is 3db more sensitve than the 3012LF.

and i don't think that high efficiency was really the design goal. it think it it was more about having an even frequency response with better dispersion.

No scientific results here, but I can offer that I was literally floored at the output of my new Bergantino HT112ER. On the second day of ownership I had a gig that ended up being in a larger room than expected...which was bothersome since I knew I was already pushing my luck bringing just one cab to a 10-piece R&B gig. (Carpool, weather, tight confines...) Anyway, the single cab didn't break a proverbial sweat. Certainly not a cheap cab, but I couldn't be happier with it.

One of the loudest I´ve tried, is a Tecamp XS112. Think it´s around 103dB@ 1w/1m, but the total lack of low frequencies made it not that suitable for the type of sound I´m after. But it´s loud.

This is why you want efficiency as a curve, not the figure at 1khz

This is all great--thanks so much! Keep 'em coming! Anyone have any opinions about the TC Electronic RS112 on this front? I I played through one of their 2x10s on several gigs and found it to be louder than expected considering the weight/power rating, and so wondered about the 1X12....

BFM Jack 112 would have to be a contender in this category.

Louder than your Jack 112? OP is "purely interested in volume, not tone".

If i had the GK mb 500 head i would pair it with the GK 212MBE its only 15 kg and the 4 ohm version is rated for 600 watts ,,its all you would really need.

+1! The Berg HT112ER has got to be the best 112 there is. Much better than the AE112 and the TC RS112. I've owned all 3.
