Loudest Solid State Amp?

Sign in to disble this ad
Not considering tone, features, size/weight, on average, who makes the loudest (dB/watt) solid state amps out there? I'm not looking for a scientific answer, just from what people have heard and played through. I hear that Hartke HA amps are up there in terms of loudness. Any thoughts?

Yeah, an amp is silent without speakers. Speaker cab efficiency and number of speakers are essential parameters in generating loudness. A large Nexo PA system would be in the running for loudest system. Some audio laboratory in Germany might take the cake.

Aside from musical amps+speakers, the loudest in the world would be moving molten lava within the Earth through the 'speaker' at Krakatoa volcano. The eruption in 1883 was reportedly heard from over 3,000 miles away. Ah, but that's seismic rather than solid state.

I think we're all looking "Seismic State"

Class-d is the loudest per ampere pulled from the wall socket.

+1 to the "it's the speakers, not the amp" comments. Amps do not make any sound, other than maybe the cooling fan.

I understand about the speaker thing, but I already have cabs, I'm just looking for a loud backup amp.

Yep. There's no loudest amp in terms of db / watt, that is the speaker system's job.

Not a combo, an amp. I disagree, there are 500 watt amps that are quiet and others that are loud as hell, when played through the same cabs. Like Frankenp said, I used to play through an old BXR 300 and it was unbelievably loud (and heavy) and I doubt that the speaker was that sensitive.

There isn't a scientific answer like maybe the gain setting isn't matched.
Class-d is still going to get the most out of an outlet. If it's too quiet and some more gain.

I understand what you are saying now but the truth of the matter is that a watt is a watt. The only way that one 500 watt amp is louder than another through the same cab is if the manufacturers are using different methods of rating their amps. I guess that isn't beyond the realm of possibility! I wish I knew who made the loudest 500 watt amp but sadly I don't

2050 watts @ 2 ohms, if you've got the right speaker setup:

Carvin.com :: B2000

...even if you don't this will be pretty loud...
