I think I like the idea of a PJB Briefcase more than the thing itself. Hmph sounds familiar. Since I've never played through one I don't truly know. Can it handle the low B? Looks like I'm starting over & I'm going to go portable w/ XLR out. If not pjb, then MB or Aguilar or Gk. I hate starting over but it's kinda like a new relationship isn't it. |

| | | | That depends on what you call "handle".
The ones i tried were rather quiet.

It can reproduce the notes, but it will fart out on those notes at a fairly low volume. |

| | | | I saw a bassist spend a lot of money on a Briefcase and extension cab. To me, there's just so much other gear below and above it's price that blows it away. Other gear excels in all the parameters of volume, portability, weight, size, good match for piezos, and price. Sound wise it's not special in it's transparency or width of frequency response. It's not warm either so their you go.
But to each his own. It bites you, you play through it better than any other gear, hey who am I to say? |

| | | | If you are going with PJ for a small practice rig, I would HIGHLY recommend moving up to the Flightcase from the Briefcase. The Briefcase is VERY limited volume-wise. The Flightcase sounds better IMO (warmer, less hiss), and will get you to 'almost a 110 combo' in absolute performance. Nice sounding combo for at home rehearsing, or small, coffee shop type gigs (i.e., bass with lightly mic'd acoustic guitar or an unmic'd piano).

It easily can handle a low B (and a low F# below it) at full volume... but in a band situation it doesn't have the volume to compete with drums and guitar. |
