Low wattage all tube head?
Hi gang, I'm looking for a low watt, all tube head. Before I jump in to anything I'd like to pick your brains. I'm looking for something for primarily home use and maybe a little studio action. I don't need (or want) some 300 watt behemoth. I don't play any one style of music exclusively, but rather everything from hip-hop to country to blues to funk to rock and beyond. I don't have a specific budget in mind as I like to do my homework first and then save up for exactly what I want. That said, I'm not interested in spending thousands for something that I don't REALLY need (I have a few heads already that work well for me). I'll likely be playing through my 2x10, maybe a 1x12 some time in the future. I play a Stingray 5, a P, and a J. I prefer to buy new (warranty), but if the perfect head is used I'm not opposed to saving money...
I've been looking at an Ashdown LB-30, and if I went shopping today it would certainly be my first choice. I just want to expand my field of options before I pull the proverbial trigger.
I see that Ashdown makes a CTM-15 15 watt head. How does the CTM-15 measure up to the LB-30? Obviously it's 15 watts instead of 30, but tone-wise how do they compare? Also, how is Ashdown in terms of reliability? I haven't heard (read) much negative about the quality of the LB-30, would the CTM-15 likely be comparable?
Are there any other companies that make low wattage all-tubers specifically for bass? I've come across a bunch of small guitar heads, but how would they work for bass? I'm guessing the EQ points are different, but would a guitar amp set flat and a nice bass preamp/EQ do the trick? Can anyone recommend something from personal experience?
