M-9 carbine power issues

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi folks,
I am new to this forum. I have been playing for over 20 years, through various amazing, and various despicable basses and amps. Being a fulltime musician does not always afford you the time to make money, to well, afford great gear. So I broke down and borrowed / gigged for some new gear to kick off a 57 date tour with Canadian Reggae / rock circus known as "Idlers", not to be confused with British Rockers- "The Idlers".

So I have been using the M-9 since January of this year, and played an estimated 40 shows in various sized venues, with no problems at all.
In fact, the m-9 is all that I really need, even for stadium sized venues, so far. But, after playing the infamous "Lydia's pub" in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, Canada, the m-9 decided to stop working in the first song of our set, to a highly packed bar. Pissed. I asked several people about this, and brought it to an "experienced" repair tech, and, he could not find any problem with it, and it worked fine. The night of my second gig, partway through the first song in the first set, the signal from the neutrix to my cab was not sending. The D.I. out was working like a charm. I have no idea what is going on. I have tried all combinations of cables and cabs to troubleshoot the problem. No luck.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
I-bassie

Does it work after it has completely cooled down? This may be a thermal protection issue?

Tom.

M-9 issues

Hey,
Well, the technician that looked at it suggested the same thing. I tried that during our set break last night. Unplugged it for 15 min, then tried again, it did not send a signal to the outputs on the rear. Like I said in the original post, the D.I. works fine. I even tried plugging my power into a plug across the stage to rule out other guitar amps sapping power.
The straw that broke the proverbial camel's back the first night was my guitar player turning up his tiny fender amp a notch, that is when my sound coming from my cab diminished to nothing over about a five minute period. Then nothing. So, overnight cooling worked for about three bars into our first song, then... nothing.
So, I guess I can only hope that it is the power source at the venue causing the issue, if not... what can I do, after it is brand new.
thanks for the reply.

i own the m6 carbine and once had a similar problem. i found out that it had to do with the power supply. the amp was fine but it didnīt get enough power from the socket. all other amps (pa and guitar) worked fine, only my mesa didnīt. seems they need stable voltage. i hope this might help.

if you bought it new, they come with a 5 year warranty, and mesa's customer service is top notch.

i have not had a similar issue with my M9, nor read of this in the (admittedly small) M9 megathread. If you can test voltage at the club, that helps diagnose things, but, I'd sure call mesa c/s and tell them what's going on...

If you bought it at Long & Mcquade, they will deal with shipping the amp back to Mesa and will likely give you a loner amp until yours is repaired. I bought my M9 in January and have had zero issues with it but there are always going to be bugs to work out with a new product. I would not mess around and have it serviced by the folks that designed and manufactured it!

Ya, I know... ;(. There was nowhere else to turn, I was just hoping to get some sort of insight. I will try it at another venue and see.
If not, back to Mesa with it, and maybe go SVT.
Thank you all for the help, as we say at home,

svt?
nice enough, but quite a different tone palette...

i've run my M9 in all kinds of crummy venues, at the end of long entension cords, with other power amps on the multi-outlet box.

i'd give mesa a shot at making yours right if you like ti very well, issues aside. especially if L&M will give you a loaner,
that's a good test right there...and makes getting yours service painless.
