M6 Carbine @ 2 Ohms? Anyone doing it?

Yep, I know Mesa says it can but I am always reluctant to run anything at that impedance. Is anyone running their M6 or similiiar head at such and what are/were the results?

Thanks.

I run my M9 2.6 ohm most of the time and 2 ohm sometimes
also run my WT550, and B1500 at 2 ohm sometimes

All those heads had been stable running, but a bit hotter at 2 ohm
key is to have adequate ventilation to dissipate heat

Yes, but be sure to flip the 4-2 ohm switch on the back of the amp. It was made to run at 2 ohms.

I used to crank it into a pair of Berg NV's at 2 ohm. I could actually get the jewel power light to dim on loud notes!

Awesome!

That should be a feature on all rock amps...

I run my M9 often at 2 ohms with a pair of Acme Low B-2s. As the others have stated, be sure to have the ohm switch in the correct position and expect it to be a bit on the hot side.

So if I run my Carbine with a 4ohm 2x12 and an 8ohm 2x10 I want to select 2ohms on the selector..correct?

Correct, RSmith. Don't do so otherwise or you'll risk frying it.

Mesa, along with the larger Genz heads, is one of the few companies that really does the 2ohm thing right... IMO, not just 'beefing up' the cooling, etc. to 'allow for 2ohm operation', but to literally design the amp for safe, reasonably good spec 2ohm operation by, from what I understand, including circuitry that reduces the power from full 2ohm operation to closer to 4ohm levels (hence the 2ohm switch).

So, zero issue with the M6 and M9. They are 2ohm as it should be.... an optional setting to run non optimal cabinet combinations when you need to, not a way to squeeze every last bit of power possible out of an amp with little regard for THD, etc.

Nice designs. HOWEVER... if you look on the back of the M6/M9, it still says 'suggested minimum load 4ohms'. I would never PLAN a rig to run at 2ohms day in and day out. Really doesn't make much sense to me. However, on those largest of large gigs, or I guess if you have some strange cabinet combinations and don't have the cash to 'sell and do it right', it is a very nice option to have.
