As many times as a I try, I can't get into 410s.

I know, they are the best "bang for your buck" speaker type out there (since they move the most air). But every time I try to convince myself to like 410s, I end up a tad disappointed.

Now I know all of them are different, and I'm talking about GK cabinets specifically. I love their 115 enclosures, but every once in a while I get caught up the TB hype and want a 410.

Some say that you can't generalize by speaker config, but I think you can within a company's lineup. To me, GK's 410s are too sizzly for me, I've tried the SBX+, Neo, MBX, and RBH series. This weekend I bought the 410MBX (I was trading in some gear and wanted to take advantage of the 10% off at guitar center... they didn't have any GK 15s). It's a great sounding cab, but it's not my style (not to mention my head looks goofy atop such a huge enclosure).

There is a question buried in all of this rambling, lol. As stated earlier, I like the sound of 15s. I currently have an MB Fusion head, would I cut through a pretty (punk) loud power trio with the MBE series 115 from GK (the 8ohm version)? I do plan on getting an additional 115 to make a 2 x 115 full stack, but could I get by for now without my speaker farting out?

Don't let e-peen ruin or run your life. I don't like 410s either and I say that regularly.
I like 212's as an alternative and if I had to play 10's I'd go with a 610 honestly.

Assuming it's impedance compatible, get the second cab. Lotsa more boom for short money.

(I'm a 15" partisan myself.)

Right I'd run 2 15s @ 8ohms apiece = 4 ohm load (which is the minimum for the MBFusion).

I'm not a fan of 4x10's either.
My favorite cab is a 2x15.
But i love a 6x10 cab. the extra 2x10's just give me the tone i desire for 10's.
Bergantino NV610, is the end all 6x10 cab.

410's are way over rated. most people buy them cause that is what everybody else is doing. i use 2 - 115's and love it. you get volume, tone, and portability.

I think the only thing you have proven is that you don't like the 4x10 cabs you tried so far. There is no evidence that you will not ever like any 4x10 ever built. That's ok though, as you have discovered you don't need a 4x10 to get what you want.

+1. i like good sounding 410's and i hate crappy sounding 410's.

honestly, though, i don't like 410's nearly as much as 810's.

I try to judge speaker setups by how they sound, how loud they go and how well the cabinet is built before worrying about the speaker sizes

(currently only got 3 cabs, 4x10, 8x10 and 2x15 )

Who ever told you that you HAVE to use a 4x10? Use whatever speaker system that suits your tone goals. My choice is a pair of 2x10s vertically stacked. Good as my system is it might be the polar opposite of where YOU want to be. Keep trying every configuration you can find until you find the one that makes you smile.

If you don't like the sound of a 4x10 cab, then don't use one.

What's the problem here?

I got 410s under the assumption that I would be louder (cuz moving more air = louder). The point of the story was I finally realized that even though I was louder, I didn't like the tone. My conflict was whether I could attain a similarly usable loudness with a 2 x 115 setup as I could with a 2 x 410 setup. I know the 15s won't be as loud, but will they be loud enough? Sorry if I wasn't clear in my OP.

Main problem with a 4x10, as I see it, is the short, squat form factor. Reposition those drivers into a vertical or semi-vertical configuration, seated in a relatively tall, narrow cab (or just get a pair of 2x10s), and it immediately becomes a much more attractive option...

Oddly enough, I find that I like good sounding cabinets, basses, and heads, and hate crappy sounding cabinets, basses and heads.

Go figure...

I have discovered that I don't much care for the tone of 10's on stage, but, I prefer them when in the audience.
