MarkBass 102P Vs. 102HF

I've decided against the 121 or 151 approach and am now looking at 102s (mainly based upon input here).

Anyone who is familiar with both cabs, is there an advantage to the HF series which outweighs the 10 lb. weight increase? OTOH, is there a disadvantage to the 102P which negates the lighter weight? They are roughly the same price, and 40-20,000 vs 45-18,000.

The cab will be used to shuttle between practice facilities, or for use in small venue Country gigs (4 and 5 string basses), I have other rigs for bigger venues or those with no P.A. support.

The 102HF will sound bigger and fuller. Hearing them side by side, I preferred the HF and ended up with the combo.

Just my input here. I have the 121p with the matching NY 1x12 head and love it. It sounds killer and is louder that a 6x10 and an SVT I swear - and both 29 lbs. I run an A-designs Reddi thru it - basically a 500 watt B15.

I had the combo cmd102p and got rid of it because I didn't like the piezo tweeter. I liked everything about it but that, so HF all the way.

The CMD102P combo is the HF cab with the amp built in.

I disconnected the tweeter in mine.

I thought the HF had a horn and not a piezo.

I thought they were the same but I just looked at the Markbass site and saw the difference. Still, the tweeter is disconnected in my combo.

+1. I did the same side by side, came to the same conclusion, and bought the same combo!

102P is 33 lbs, MF lists the HF as 49 lbs, IIRC, Markbass listed it at 43 lbs. It seems to me that when you start getting into the 50 lb range, alot of territory opens up. For instance my Eden 115XLT is 59 lbs. So I don't know that a 49 lb 210 makes a lot of sense (for me).

I made my decision based on portability and weight and went with the 102P.
Zero regrets. Have had it for exactly one year and would purchase the same if I did it again.

It's not 49 lbs. The combo is only 44 lbs so it's probably 43 lbs.
