Markbass 121p combo is a flexible tone shaper

I recently joined a prog rock group with a talented but very loud guitarist. Our practice space is rather small and I'd been trying to use my old Fender Bassman tilt-back during practice but it's giving all it's got and it aint near enough.

I don't want to lug my heavy Hartke 2515 back and forth, so it presented the perfect reason to the wife to buy a new lightweight combo

I went down to the local GC and played a selection of combos and was very impressed by the size, volume and tone of the Markbass 121p. It is 29lbs and 15x15x17in. For the size it's amazingly loud (300w with internal speaker, 500w with extension).

So I've played it most of the afternoon and done a bunch of knob twiddling. I don't know yet what will work best in the mix but it has much more sound shaping capability than I expected. Far more than any amp I've owned to this point.

At this point I'm more impressed with the variety of tones I get out of the Markbass than I can get from my SansAmp. I've had that Sansamp in my signal chain for years... it may be time to give it a break.

Nice. It's good when it all works out. Did a similar thing today, getting rid of a big heavy rig for something new and shiny. Good for us.
