Markbass 12s opinion eg NY121 (despite the fact no one has played the NY122)

Hi everyone

The Markbass NY122 looks fantastic. I really want a 4 ohm 2x12 thats fairly light, good construction, and in this vertical style.

Has anyone played any other Markbass 12 cabinets like the NY121? Opinions?

Im quite tempted by the NY122.

Cheers

I just got a NY121, loud enough for practice using a Little Mark II at 12 o'clock, will be gigging with it this weekend at bars/clubs venues. I'll let you know after the weekend. If we can get someone to record a video of us playing, I'll try and post it here.

Opinions from practice: Loud enough to keep up with a guitarist (mainly acoustic through the PA but also plays electric), a not too loud drummer, and a singer who plays keys here and there. A lot more low end than I was expecting too. I play a Fender Zone bass (has the J/P pickups).

If the NY121 is nice, Im guessing the NY122 is just like a larger version.

Im after a super clean sounding cab as most my others are rock n roll cabs.

A few observations from last night. We were playing at a decent sized bar and I had no PA support so I was solely depending on the LM II and NY 121. Hard wood floors resulted in some lessons for me! That speaker rumbled the room and moved about a foot during our 1 1/2 hour set. A few songs in, the LM II actually fell off the cab but it was OK, I think; I didn't notice til the end of the song and I looked back at the setup and since that cab is so low to the ground it didn't have far to fall. I just set it on a more stable spot after that since the NY 121 was going for a ride. I will def need to stick some velcro to the bottom of the head. Soundwise, people said my bass tone was super clear and a guy in the next band asked if I was going through the PA. They were amazed to see such a tiny amp especially compared to the next bassist's completely unnecessary 8x10 (for the venue). I will try and post a video or two on Monday. Two more gigs, will give you an update after those.

^^ I thought the same of my buddies traveler 210. crazy loud.

I'm gassing BIG time for the NY212 - but will probably setle on a 2 X 112 because I play so many different size venues.

I use a MB Mini CMP121p and a MB NYC121 and it sounds awesome. Plenty of volume for me playing with a drummer who pounds the s**t out of his kit,2 guitar players with 100 watt amps, and keys. One guitar player always complaining the rig produces too much low end. I run the lo and lo mid knobs flat and volume 10-11 o"clock! I told him I'll show you low end and turned the lo and lo mid to about the 4 o'clock position and the low end was crushing! Neither speaker was farting out and the amp was up REALLY loud. The other bands my band does shows with, the bassists use mostly 8x10 and 4x10 cabinets and their first look at my rig you can see them smirk. After I'm done playing EVERY bassist in the others bands compliments me on the tone of my bass and ask multitude of questions about my rig. Some of them ask if they can use the rig for their set and I let them. They come off the stage with a smile on their faces and praise the rigs sound. Once they lift one of the cabinets their jaws drop. I've used the rig in small venues and just use the Mini CMP 121p and it's amazing how much volume and tone can come out of this little 17"x15"x14" box. The only GAS I have is if somehow I could swap out the LM II head in the Mini CMP121p for the MB Little Rocker head. That would be perfect for me.

I used the cmd 121p last night on raised auditorium stage with a larger 1-12" under it. Unfortunately I was positioned too close to the drummer and his sneer side of all place. Thankfully I had the CMD 121 because the slight mid-raspiness that cab has was cutting through all the pounding and crashing of the drums. The larger deeper toned cab was barely audiable. The CDM121P with matching extension cab would have been even better.

I find the smaller MarkBass cabs when played alone, may not sound as sweet or pleasant as others . But in a band mix they are able to cut and fill up where they need to be.

At this point ,if you already own the combo with the LMII in it, the cheaper route would be to just get a Tech21 VT Bass pedal. Instead of buying the LM Rocker.
