Markbass 1x12 and a 1x15 used together,,, Opinions wanted please

Sign in to disble this ad
I currently have a MB 1x15 Berlin combo and a 1x15 Markbass NY 1x15 ext cab, (LOVE my MB stuff by the way).

I was wanting to get the MB 1x12 combo amp but was wanting to get opinions about using the 1x12 combo with my MB NY 1x15 ext cab.

It would be nice not to have to lug the 1x15 Berlin combo to every show.

FWIW, I use 5 string bass's (low B tuning).

Opinions welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Davyo

I used an SWR WM's 12 combo with a 115 extention cab for years, sounded pretty good for what it was. The amp itself in the combo, by today's standards, was pretty lame, but it sounded good.

The only way to know is to try both of them and see what sounds good to you.

I've used Bergantino 1x12 + 1x15 and was not happy...

A pair of 1x12's or 1x15's sounded better than both mixed, but I can't say exactly why...

Non-identical speakers+enclosures. Their outputs were canceling and reinforcing at various frequencies. Common knowledge in the SR world -- which is why you NEVER see non-identical SR speakers+enclosures covering the same frequency range.

This is possible, but, many many examples of this do sound great. 1x15 + 2x10, 1x18 + 4x10, etc....

Anyway....

This is my experience with Markbass. I own the 1x15 mini combo, and I use it on his own on 75% of my gigs, and it is enough. I was thinking of getting a NY151 as an add on when needed to cover all venues.

The 121 combo is on my short list of gas, but for rehearsals & jams. I don't think it would be enough rock & roll to cover a lot of gigs. The 121 with an extension did sound super good (121H good, D112xlt even better), but again, not sure it would cover 50% of my gigs, even with an extension.

I don't think it's worth dropping the 15 combo. You would only get what, 12 lbs lighter or so, and possibly not enough balls for some gigs. Plus, that 151NY under the JB must look great (made for each other)

that's my 2 cents

Yup.

After reading countless threads and heated debates regarding mixing cabs, this is the only advice that really works.
