Markbass 210 or single 15 combo...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey ya'll,

been a while since i've posted!

Saw a lot of sweet markbass posts over the last couple of weeks, my question is this -

To people who know these amps and have experience with them, would you recommend the 210 combo or the Jeff Berlin 15" combo? Both have the same head in them.

...I am wondering if the absence of a tweeter in the 15" combo would make a huge difference in tone.

I play a 6 string electric w/ active bartolinis, mostly rock/jazz/world music. I like the portability factor and will most likely get a 15" cab to pair with either combo for bigger gigs.

Thank you so much everyone! Can't wait to hear your responses...

Me, I'd get the Jeff Berlin. Why? Well, I just like 15s. I have the CMD 121H, single 12", but just got a 151P cab and love it. I want two 15s and separate head, eventually. But, honestly, I haven't played a Jeff Berlin combo or the dual 10s combo, so I can't say from experience. I have played a LMII through their small 210 cab at GC, but it was hard to tell what it did in that setting, to me. But, I do like the tones I'm getting from my 121H combo with the 151P cab. I think a lot of that has to do with the Little Mark II head in the combo.

My 151P cab is said to be not as deep as the next biggest 115 cab. Again, I dunno, but mine sounds great to me. It's also lightweight. There's also a New York 15 cab, but I don't know how it sounds.

Not much help, huh?

If you plan on pairing it w/ a 15 extension cab in the future, go ahead and get the 15. Mixing driver sizes is unwise, unless you plan to bi-amp.

I also vote for the Jeff Berlin. I personally don't like the Markbass piezo tweeters and would always pick a combo/cab with a horn tweeter or none at all, like the Berlin.

Thanks you guys. Yeah. Berlin combo looks pretty solid. Also don't know how the 2x10 would do with the low B - no farting allowed!!!

I really like the Berlin combo (my fav of the MB combos) but when I went to buy one, I brought my 6 string to try them out. I ended up buying the 2x10 combo b/c it handled the low B better. Now I have the 210 combo and the 410HF . . . it sounds great.

All I play right now are five string basses and the CMD102P combo handles the B with ease. I seem to be the opposite and prefer the 10's and I'm not so much on 15's.

I'm sure you can't go wrong with either but for my tastes, the articulation and punchiness of the 2x10 was a no brainer. Just a great combo that has been a pleasure to gig with.

I like 15's but the CMD102P definitely handles the low B better than the Berlin combo.

Really?!?! That's 3 excellent commentaries with the low B for the 210...wow I need to check it out then. I found one about 45 min away for $750 used in good condition...you think I should grab it?? I know it sounds good, i'm just caught between both amps.

Does the tweeter have an attenuator on it for the 2x10 combo??

No attenuator on the 2x10. It's a piezo and I'm not normally a fan of them but have had no problems regarding this one.
