I recently purchased a Markbass 121P combo amp. Just curious if anyone has been using one for a while, and if so what other Markbass cabinet do they pair it with.

I highly recommend a search. There is a Markbass "club" thread with tons of info, as well as several separate threads on the 121P, cabinet pairings, etc.

EDIT: to get you started .....

I have the 121H (same amp, bigger cab). I would suggest the 121H cab to pair with your 121P combo. I played a 121P at Guitar Center and noticed quite a difference in lows between it's small box and mine. The 121H cab is about the same size as my whole combo except that the amp space is also speaker space.

I got a 151P cab to go with my 121H combo. Now, I want another 151P and separate head.

The New York 121 is another good option. While I agree that the 121H is deeper when compared to a 121P, you should have plenty of bottom if you go the 121P/NY121 route.

I agree that pairing those two will bring out the lows. I haven't tried it, though. But, I have tried a 151P single 15 with my 121H combo and WOW!!! And I haven't heard any phase issues either. But, wow, what a sound!!

I owned the CMD 121P and 151P combos, both really cool. I never tried the 121H but in retrospect feel I would have liked it over the other two as a stand alone combo.

Good deal. I originally bought the Markbass combo because of the size and light weight. I play a Mesa Boogie M6 Carbine with a 15" boogie cabinet and it was taking it's toll on road trips. I still love the tone of my Mesa but I think with the rite pairing of my Markbass I can totally be happy w it as well. I looked at a Markbass 2x10 cabinet as well but don't think it's gonna have the lows when pairing with my Markbass 12 combo.

It's best to match the speakers versus mix and match different sizes.

epi ps112 and the epi ul112 are excellent matches with that combo in my experience.

If you like the yellow cone look (I do) the New York 121 cab is a perfect match for your 121P combo. And that way you will have the smallest, lightest, best looking rig. If you don't mind a tad extra weight, get the 121H cab. Then, you will have more lows as well, truly. Don't add the 151P cab like I did to my 121H combo. I did that only because I'm gearing up for two 15s and a separate head. The 151P is piece #1, but it so happens that I CAN use it as an extension for now. No problems with it other than I'm limited by the 12" in the combo.

The Markbass site describes the NY121 as "the perfect companion" for the CMD 121P.

Thanx!!
Yeah I'm definitely looking to save some space. With playing 3Xs a week and most of those gigs being road trips it will surely help ease my load..when cramming a 6pc band into my trailblazer. Lol. I've been using one of those new GK Ultralight 12" combos rite now but it is lacking in power. I mean,it sounds great as long as the soundman has me pumping pretty solid thru the monitors, but still it's lacking.

The Epifani cabs mentioned by BASSIST are nice, too, and slightly bigger than the NY121.

I think you ought to go try your 121P combo with some speakers before you buy, to see what a small extension would do as far as bottom goes. Of course, it depends on how loud you need to play as well. I saw your combo at Guitar Center a few weeks ago. No NY121 cab, but you could've unplugged the speaker in it and used it as an extension for yours to give you some idea what the NY would sound like.

the bottom end will improve any time you add speakers, but the compatibility of non-matching cabs is very unpredictable, so soup, if you're dead set on not matching, at least try your combo out with the cabs you're considering if at all possible.

I recently added a NY 121 to my CMD 121P as well. Sounds great! Deep lows, ability to turn down the piezo in the extesion, a nice improvement over the combo by itself.
