I've got a 102P combo and one of my basses is a P with flats. Definitely tamed the high end and warmed the bottom end.

I LOVE my CL108, and when you consider that it weighs 89 pounds vs. 150-160 for the Ampeg, you understand why it costs more (although you can get good deals on used ones if you look).

I've played the CL108 before and didn't like it at first, but it grew on me. You can definitely tell it's a Markbass (lighter on the low end and a bit upper middy), but it's competitive.

I've recently replaced my Epifani 502 head with a Little Mark II head. I found two usable settings (for my taste) with my 502. One setting was great for finger-style playing and a good cut through the mix but it didn't sound good for slap. When I totally changed the Mid volume/freq settings, I then could get a great slap tone but the cut was lost. When I first tried the Markbass I was impressed at how great it sounded set flat. I still tweaked the eq a little but noticed I could get the best of both worlds in one setting. I also got rid of my Epifani 310 (I'd keep the 502 over the 310 if I had to make a choice). I'm loving the MB head. It works better with other cabs than the 502 (the 502 sounds better with Eden cabs than with Epifani cabs "my opinion"). I'm using Eden 210 XST & XLT cabs right now. I like the MB cabs but am sticking with the Edens right because I don't think the MBs can get as loud. You can't beat the price of the MB heads also. A little Mark cost about the same as a Hartke 5500. I love the eq on the Hartke but it doesn't take long before they will need a repair. Thinking about getting a MB cab but I'm also thinking they are over priced.

Markbass cabs

I love the Markbass stuff. I now own 3 cabs. The traveler 210P, 102HF, and the 104HF. I tour with the SD800, 102HF, and the 104HF. I love the light weight setup (I'm 57), and the tonal quality. I also have a Ampeg SVT 810 and all tube 300 watt hwead, and a a Eden pro setup. I get more comments on the Mark bass than any of them. Mostly because there's not many guys using them here in the states, especially on tour. I can use my fender P bass or one of my many MM's thru this amp. No problems, just minor EQing. I can even get Tube type sounds thru this rig without any issues. Also, here's a quick note: The SD800 sounds killer thru the SVT 810. I couldn't beleive the sound. The cabs and the amps are amazing. (No, I don't endorse MarkBass). I just love the product. Ken

I now have two NY604 cabs and an F1- talk about a monster mini-rig-of doom! Very punchy, shocking low end, clear highs, and 500 watts of pure rock fury! I can make one-trip loadins now, which is really nice. People often mistake them for a pair of 1x12 cabs, and are blown away when I show them that it is actually an 8x6 configuration!

Plus, I think it's funny that the whole rig stands mid-thigh...brings to mind the infamous "Stonehenge" bit from Spinal Tap...I sometimes worry I'm going to trip on a dwarf! LOL!

I used to have a full MarkBass rig, including LMII head, Traveler 102P and Traveler 151P cabs. I could not keep that rig. Even while being extremely careful with peak levels on gain and general volume, the speakers would pump, pump and pump again. maybe that was normal, but that was too scary for me.

Tonewise, I also needed to take distance from the cabs to hear and feel the beef in the sound.

On all other hands, they are very well made, well finished, and they are innovative.

Just my 2 cents.

I can understand where you're coming from
about how you have to stand away from the cab to feel the "weight" of it. But as you can see in my video that it can really fill up the mix with low-middy goodness.

I have a SA450 and a 104HF. When I play at home, I cut around 800hz and bump the VPF a little. Live, I run it completely flat. The setup works wonderfully for me.

dude, that means they're working right. they have that much travel so they can move more air and handle more lows without blowing up than other speakers. nothing at all to be alarmed about. pa companies use speakers that move twice that much and they're just fine night after night.

I have "little rocker 500" 104HF and 151HF and well I dont have that much experience with other cabs.

I have had one 2x10 Ashdown and one oldschool 2x15Hartke and also have tried few ampeg's.

I must say markbass rig is by far the best I have used. I am very curious to try out other head's but I'm happy with cabs. Though I will get some additional ones just for kicks.

I'm glad I found this thread. I was in a regularly gigging band that played loud hard rock and alt time signatures. The cabs sound like they would have been ideal for that but....

I left that band and am currently upgrading my gear, so I'm in my bedroom for the most part playing not very loud. I have a MoMark 600 Black.

I want a light weight cab 2x12, 2x10 or 1x15...I was thinking of getting the 102HF but now I'm not sure.

Lightweight, puncy and not too big is what I'm looking for, could anyone PM me some suggestions to save me opening a new thread or spamming this one?

Good News

Ended up buying a 102p cab, was a big sound difference from my Hartke 410tp. I think the cabs have a particular accect? Or because it has more tonal range it sounded greatly different, either way took me a couple minutes to get used to it but now it's fantastic. Really compliments my MB head and Warwick bass and sounds great whatever you put through it.

Summary: Crystal clear, MINDBLOWINGLY LIGHT, so punchy, rich and deep. Just in absolute awe of it I really am. Thought I'd miss having big heavy gear but its phenominally cool, can't emphasise enough how cool it think it is that it's only a 210 and its just fantastic really really great!

Currently running a GK MB-500 through a 102p cab. I think the MB-500 (class D of course) just sounds thinner than the GK 700RB-II it replaced. What do you think about a Little Mark III instead? I like the 700RB-II but find that the cab being 2-10s with rear porting tends to lack a bit on the low end. Is it true that a Mark Bass head will work better with the 102p than a GK? Or is it what it is and that is that? Dont get me wrong, it sounds nice. But I have an ACME Low B-1 that moves more low end air and lower to medium volume (whereas the Markbass has more punch in higher volume). I do like the 700RB-II, but thinking I am missing out on the cab's full potential by not using a Little Mark III head on the MB 102p cab.
