Markbass compressore as preamp

Sign in to disble this ad
so recently at practice I have been running into a Markbass compressore, then an EBS Microbass II with a VT bass in the FX loop of the ebs (for distortion)

but I've found the sound wasn't sounding so clean and crisp as I am used to running just into the EBS? So I figured seeing as I was running the ebs flat anyways just for my clean tone, I could take it out the mix and tried just running the Compressore straight into the poweramp...

I was worried it wouldn't be loud enough to drive the poweramp by itself but running the input and output at like 3/4 gave me enough volume to hear myself easily through the mix with some extra available volume to spare!

The sound was amazingly clear and articulate yet still very warm, the best I have had yet! and although there is no eq, I actually didn't need any more than what was available on my bass. I think this might be my new gigging solution possibly with the VT thrown in after the compressore just for some grind in certain instances

I think because I was running the input gain so high it was getting a bit more saturation from the tube which gave it a bit of warmth and harmonic enhancement.

note: I was running fairly light compression, I think with heavy ratios and a lower threshold I wouldn't have been able to get as much volume out of it...

Just though you guys might be interested to know in case anyone is thinking of trying it out come to think of it, it sounded very similar to my Eden nav with everything set flat
