I'm looking at the Markbass F1 / F 500 and the Genz Benz 9.0. Any comments, suggestions, etc? My criteria is tone and reliability.

I've owned both, and I kept the F1, which I found punchier, more of an " in your face " tone with a 4 ohm load ( GB Neox 212T ). It's all pretty subjective, though. Best thing to do is try both if you can.

I think the 9 would be more reliable, but I think I prefer the tone of the F1/F500.

I prefer the solid state preamp's clarity in the Markbass over the tube pre in Shuttles. I can't say about the 9.0, but based on owning the 6.0 for a while. Just never got into the tube pre.

I own the F1 and just bought a 9.0 to test out at home for two days before I have to return it. I'm returning the 9.0 for the same reasons the others have mentioned.
I like having the low mid and high mid control which the Genz does not have. It's a bit more of a smooth sounding amp.
I prefer the F1.
