Markbass head with an Aguilar GS112 stack?

Sign in to disble this ad
I currently have a single Aguilar GS112 cab, and the more I play through it, the more I like the sound I get from it. I'm strongly considering getting a 2nd one, and along with it, a head that would sound killer with a 2 x GS112 setup. My current head is a TC Electronic Classic 450, which now has to split duty betw/ the Aggie & a Bergantino HT322.

From checking out several threads, incl the '2 x 112 rig' thread, it seems that the Markbass LMII/LMIII heads are very popular for a GS112 stack. One of the heads I was considering to pair with my HT322, though, was the Markbass F500 (thanks, Ken!). I've read some comments where the users weren't so crazy about an "F" head with the GS112s as much as the LM heads.

Obviously, another head in the running is the Aguilar Tone Hammer 500, though so far I seem to like the clips I've heard of the F500 better.

So, right now in the running, it's an MB F500 vs. Ag TH500. Any comments &/or other suggestions?

Fingerstyle ... classic rock, motown/stax, reggae ... P bass or a Lakland 4402 ... budget $700-800 +/- (though GAS for a used DB751 almost got the better of me a few weeks ago)..

Can't comment about the TH500, aside from the fact that I've read that it has a warm tone, since it's trying to replicate the larger Aggie heads. But, I played a LMII through a DB112, and it sounded great! Judging by Ken's clips, the F500 sounds like a great head, love it's hifi tone. IMO it seems like the F500 is a much mid/treblier tone compared to the TH500

Not a huge Markbass fan, but the LMII did sound good with the GS112s. That being said, I got rid of the LMII. Honestly, that was the only cabs I liked the LMII with. Didn't like it with my bergs, or glockenklang cabs.

I have a ToneHammer 500. Like many Aguilar products it doesn't wow you when you play it alone, but it really excels in a band environment. Like many have said, the top in "zing" is not there and with these cabs it will be more noticeable. That being said, I think for the weight and price, its definitely a workingman's DB750

My DB750 is at home more these days. I play many of the styles you play and use a 5502 quite often thru the TH500. I think you really can't go wrong with the TH500 or the LMII/LMIII

I've played the Tonehammer 500 and I've tried out a couple of the class D Markbass heads. Out of the two I liked the Tonehammer WAY better, but I don't think I'd ever buy one. It gets close to tube warmth, but it's not actually tube warmth. I like tubes. But that's just a personal preference. But for a lightweight portable set up, it's really a great buy.

Has anyone tried a GK MB Fusion with Aguilar GS112's? I own 2 of these cabs and in the market for a head for them. I've got it down to either the Tone Hammer 500 or a GK MB Fusion.
