Markbass LM 800 Bass Question?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Carvin BRX10.4 cab @ 4ohms 1200W. I really wish that I had enough to test the MarkBass SD1200. But how would the cab carry with a MarkBass Tube 800 or the Markbass LM 800? Will it still contain the sizzle and punch from the VFE and VLF frequency that I am eagerly looking for, or should I change cabs?

not understanding your question. if you're asking if it'll work, it should. if you're asking how it will sound, it'll sound like your cab with a markbass amp powering it.

Your cab will define your tone more than the head IMO.

Can't tell you at all how that match-up will sound. However, I'm posting to define what those filters do (since there can be some user error involved in these filters).

VLE.. vintage loudspeaker emulation. This is a variable lo pass filter that is flat/off when the knob is all the way off (NOT at noon). It works a bit like a passive tone control on a Fender type instrument...rolling off treble and eventuall mids as you crank it up.

VPF... variable preshape filter (I think... I can never remember the exact name of this one). It again is 'flat' when the knob is off. It is a classic, standard enhance/contour type control that adds deep bass, rolls out mids, and adds upper treble.

So, to your comment about the filters... the VLE takes out sizzle, but surely does not add punch. The VPF literally removes punch and adds wide, smooth, scooped tone.

The 800 series amps have plenty of sizzle, but are not as 'punchy' (i.e., low mid presence) as the F1/F500.
