MarkBass LM Tube 800 - HELP!!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
I play contemporary gospel for my church and now own the LM Tube 800 amp. However, I am trying to get the optimum cabinet setup for it. I do not know weither the cabs that I am using is suffient enough for its use. The head is awesome and I wish to get the best potential from it. I am now , "and I'm sure its wrong!" GK Goldline setup. 210 rating 200W @ 8ohm and 410 400W @ 8 ohm, with I believe a total of 600W @ 40ohm and I believe I maybe stressing the amp. I need those punchs and sizzle for my presence and deep enough bottom for my lows. I also have an SWR Goliath Jr III 210 cab 400W @8 ohm and is now thinking of adding a SWR Son of Bertha 115 cab rated 350W @ 8 ohms for more wattage. I am sure that will help, but? What in wattage would be an excellent setup for this amp's potential?

Please help!

Hey Mike! Hope you are doing well.

To the OP. As long as the total nominal impedance is no less than 4ohms (i.e., two 8ohm cabs), your amp will not be 'stressed' with any combination of cabs. Also, the power rating of a cab has little to do with anything... it is a loose guideline for maximum power that cab can handle. However, since your amp rarely puts out its maximum power (it is rare that we run amps at maximum volume for extended periods), it is a spec that can typically be ignored.

That being said, those Goldline cabs are not exactly top of the heap. The SWR stuff should sound very good with that head, since they have a nice tight low end in general, and a bit of dip in the upper mids (the 800 puts out LOTS of upper mids).

So, nothing you can do (again, other than going below 4ohms) will stress or 'hurt' that head. It's a matter of finding a couple of 8ohm cabs that you like.

If you have some dollars, the Bergantino AE line of cabs sounds darn good with that head.... bright, tight, grindy and aggressive... great punchy slap tone and burpy fingerstyle tone. However, the SWR cabs (the 'lite' versions are very nice) will work great.

Just use your ears with that powerful amp... if you hear 'farting' of the drivers, or you feel the speakers compress (i.e., your low end feels like it is going away when you slap or really dig in), just turn down a bit, or at least reduce the deepest low end.

Hope that helps.

I'm sure that would sound good, as long as you like the tone of your SWR 210. A second GIII Jr. (210) would probably be the best way to go.... more of what you already like with the single one.

Well, I have just been informed that the current equipment that I am using with my Markbass is a mid level application. By next week, I will using a SWR setup.

SWR Goliath III Jr 210 400W
SWR Son of Bertha 115 350W

Both are pre Fender. So if the sound from this ever need any enhancements, I will simply upgrade the woofers only. Probably go with some Eminence Kappas or NEOs.

Anyway, I am well pleased.

Thanks guys!

Is it just the woofer going out or the tone from it?
